CHAPTER 5: Han River

Avery's POV

We arrive at the Han River. I saw Alexa and Chelsea unnie placing a blanket on the ground under the tree. We are having a picnic.

"Ave, come sit beside me." Instead of sitting beside her, I chose to sit beside my Alexa.

"Blair unnie are you still addicted to chicken nuggets?" Alexa said while eating her fries.

"What? It's yummy " Chel kept eating her nuggets. I looked at my food and I don't know what this food tastes like.

"Ms. Halston, don't you like your food?" Alexa asked me. I shake my head. "So what is the problem?"

She is worried about me, aww.

"Its her first time eating McDonald's." Chel said

"As expected for rich people." She muttered, but I still heard. "Try to dip your fries in your sundae. I'm sure you're gonna love it." She smiled at me and I did what she said, and it was delicious.

"It is delicious," I said, and she smiled proudly.

"See, like what I told you. It's my favorite actually."

So, it's her favorite. I'm going to remember that.

We ate silently while Alexa and Chelsea watched the view. I kept stealing glances at Alexa. She looks like a Barbie doll with her pointy nose, plump lips, and doe-eyed eyes. Her face is ethereal.

"Let's go now, we still have a job to do." Chel suddenly said we stand up and we fix ourselves. We rode in her car and she started driving. We were quiet the whole ride until we arrived. "Alex, let's go to my office."

WHAT THE f**k ARE THEY GOING TO DO AT HER OFFICE?!?!?!"

"Okey, lead the way." She followed Chel and I looked dumbfounded. I'm mad right now. I really want to kill my cousin.

"Chel unnie, what are you going to do at your office?"

"Ahh, I asked for some help."

"You can just ask your secretary for help. Why do you need to ask others?"

"Ave, you fired my secretary, remember?"

"No, I forgot."

"You fired her because she handed the file to you upside down."

"Wow, that is a petty reason," Alexa muttered. My Alexa appears to have been turned off; why did my cousin have to tell me that in front of her?

"Just forget about that and just get a secretary."

"Alexa, do you want to be my secretary?" She suddenly asked Alexa.

"NO!!!" I shouted and they flinched.

"Why are you shouting?" Chel asked

"No, I'll ask Madie to find you a secretary, so yeah, you don't have to worry about that matter."

"You are really acting strange." She stated, "Let's go, we still need to finish my job."

"Hey, unnie, I told you that your secretary would be the one to help you," I said, turning to face Alexa. "And you, Alexa, you don't have to help her."

"Okay?" She answered unsure, "Blair unnie, can I stay at your office and borrow your PC or laptop? I have an essay that I need to finish"

"Ye-" I snipped Chel unnie.

"No, you can't"

"Why?" They both looked confused.

"Because this is a workplace, not an internet cafe."

"Ahh okay," Alexa said and she looked at Chel. "So Blair unnie, I think I will just go to the library."

"Okay, do you want me to drive you there?" Chel offered

"Unnie, you still have work. You can't drive her. We can just ask Bobby. "

"You don't have to Blair unnie and Ms. Halston."

Ouch! She called me Ms. Halston, not even my first name.

"I'll get going now. Bye Ms. Halston and Blair unnie" She hugged Chelsea and she even kissed her cheeks and she just BOWED at me.

"Be careful! Poopoo!" Chel shouted and Alexa stopped running and looked back. She smiled and waved.

"Time flies so fast." She sighed.

"How did you know each other?" I asked her and she looked at me, then smiled as if she reminiscing about the past. "Answer my damn question Chel and stop smiling. You look like a pyscho."

"We met in an orphanage 10 years ago. She was just 9 at that time while I was 15. I saw her sitting on a bench swaying her feet since she couldn't reach the ground. She smiled at me that time, and I smiled too, because her smile affected me. She is an innocent and smart kid for the age of 9. She talked to me like I was talking to someone my age. She asked me a question one time, "How does it feel to have a home?" At that time, I felt pity for her, but she suddenly said, "You don't need to pity me." I was speechless at that time because she read me easily and even told me that she knew I was struggling to make a decision."

"She even told me that she knew I was thinking about whether I should follow my parents to take a business management course as a course or pursue my dream. She even gave me advice one time. She said, "I don't specifically know what your real problem is, but if you are struggling to decide, you should choose the one that makes you happy. If you fail, at least you tried. Or you can choose both if you can handle it and just manage both of them. Live your life without regrets, like me. I haven't regretted anything since that time."

" I kept coming to the orphanage to talk with her and we became close. All of a sudden, I heard that someone had adopted her and I hadn't seen her for about 10 years. But thankfully, I saw her again and she is now a grown up woman. " Chel almost tears up.

"Why didn't you tell me that you were visiting an orphanage?" This chicken didn't even invite me to the orphanage to meet Alexa first.

"You keep refusing. You say you don't have time for that. I kept asking you, but you said, "Get lost, I don't want to," so I stopped forcing you."

"Tsk, it's your fault!!" I raised my voice at her and left her.

It's her fault I never met Alexa before. If she forced me, Alexa and I might be married now.

"What did I do?" Chel muttered and shook her head.

Alexa's POV

We ate lunch by the Han River. It was relaxing and peaceful. I know Ms. Halston is stealing some glances because I feel her gaze. It looks like I need to avoid going to Blair unnie's company building.

"Lex you okay?" Jade asked because I was staring out of nowhere.

"Yeah yeah, I'm fine. Dont worry. I was just stressed out, " She nodded at me. I am looking at the whole clock because I want to roam around the city to take some pictures and upload them to my i********:.

My shift ended and I hurriedly got out of the cafe. I'm riding my bike while my camera is slung over my shoulder. I stop when I see interesting things that catch my attention.

"It feels refreshing," I uttered. I kept riding my bike and then I saw a vintage shop. I locked my bike at the post and I entered the shop. I looked around and there are so many cute and interesting things. I saw a pendant. It was simple but stunning. It was a butterfly.

"Do you want to buy it?" Someone asked and I flinched because she appeared and talked suddenly. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you. I actually want to buy that pendant, but you already have it, so I was asking if you are going to buy it. "

"Ahh yes, Im going to buy it. I'm sorry. " I apologized to her, but all she did was shake her hand.

"Oh! No worries, it's fine. I can find another pendant. You don't have to apologize." She smiled at me and I smiled back. "So may I know your name? I'm Kiara Blythe Welton, but you can call me Blythe. "

"Can I call you Kia instead?" I asked and she nodded, "I am Alexandra Wreyne Smith, but you can call me Lexa or Alexa."

"Nice meeting you"

"Same as well"

"Do you want to look around more?"

"Yeah, do you want to look around together?"

"Yeah sure!"

We are now walking in the park. We were admiring the dark sky. It is already night and you can see the lights in the city.

"How old are you, Lexa?"

"19, how about you?"

"I just turned 20."

"Am I supposed to call you unnie?"

"No you dont have to. Where are you studying?"

"HT University. You?"

"Seoul National University, what grade are you in?"

"Med student, 4th year college"

"4th year?!?" She was stunned

"Yeah, I kinda accelerated."

"So you are a smartass," She joked, and I laughed. "I'm just in my 2nd year of college and I'm taking music as a course."

"Oh cool! Do you want to be a singer or a writer? "

"I want to be both"

We kept talking, and we even got each other's numbers. We became friends in a short time because we just clicked and we had similarities. I went home and sleep since it was already late.

Avery's POV

I really want to kill my cousin. I'm jealous of her because she is close to Alexa. I don't even know what their real relationship is. But suddenly, I remember what happened on the Han River. She was worried about me, and she even shared her favorite thing with me.

Keeping in mind that I keep smiling, I probably buy McDonald's, so I can always give her favorite.

" Avery Jane, what's with the smile of yours?" My mom asked

"Nothing just happens, something good happens."

"Care to share it with us?"

"Nah, I probably will not. You guys can't even do something about it. "

"Just tell us sweetie, we might be able to get you what you want."

"Alexa"

"Alexa?"

"I want Alexa." I left them and walked to my room.

Mrs. Halston's POV

I saw my daughter walking with a smile on her face. It has been a long time since I last saw her smile. I secretly took a photo of her before I asked her

"Darling, what are you thinking right now?" My husband asked

"Your daughter"

"Why? Is there a problem with her?"

"Nope"

"Then why?"

"She smiled earlier." I showed him the photo and he was stunned.

"How? What happened?"

"She said something good happened and I asked her if we might not do something about it, but I still tried to force her and she said she wanted Alexa"

"Alexa? What is that? Is that a speaker that connected with google? Or clothing brand or something?"

"I don't know. Maybe we should ask Chelsea."

"Yeah, I'll probably call her"

"We should give her Alexa so we can see our daughter happy"

"Yeah we should. I'm going to give Chelsea a call. Wait for me here"

If she wants Alexa, I think I need to do something about it. I want to see my daughter smile again. I want the old Avery to come back.
