- 14 - Ilene fought her first instinct to run. Her second was to turn around and throw a fireball. She did neither. She kept going. “I’ve got a gun,” the voice said. “And I’ll use it. I know you two can stop bullets, but I’m betting you can’t do it from this range. Not all of them. Not in time.” He had a point. The voice was right behind them, no more than five feet away. Too close. She stopped, freezing in place. Beside her, Michael did the same. “Right decision,” the man said. “Don’t turn around. Stay exactly the way you are until I tell you to move. And don’t try any funny stuff, magic stuff. You won’t be able to stop all my bullets from this close. Besides I got someone here who can counter anything you try.” That alone intrigued Ilene so much she almost turned around
