The Forest Spirit 2

MICAH I woke up feeling drowsy and a bitter taste was left in my mouth. I tried to sit up but a sharp pain tore through my back. I laid down back and stared at the ceiling panting heavily. Where was I? I was in so much pain. My eyes felt heavy and so did my limbs. Nexxie and some Omega servants walked in with my tray of food consisting of freshly baked bread, warm milk, apple tarts and a bowl of a greenish looking substance with dried herbs floating on it. She saw my swollen face and cooed. “Oh My lady, sorry for what happened to you. Selene can be so wicked.” I grunted in reply as she fluffed my pillows and made me sit up straighter. “But better still, I heard you hit her down on your first day.” That. I felt like I needed to brag it to somebody. “Hell, ya. I didn't know when the unexpected surge of power came from, but now I feel so weak.” “That's why I brought you food my lady. Fighting one of the strongest Luna's is not easy at all.” I screwed my face when I inhaled the herb like soup. “What the f**k exactly is this?” “It makes the healing process faster my lady.” “Nope. I'm not eating it.” Her voice went into a pleading tone. “If you do not eat it, then how will you get better?” Despite my uncomfort, I smiled inside. I could never get used to this pampered lifestyle. I decided to drink it. But one gulp of the soup had me wincing like I was walking through the valley of the shadow of death. An Omega patted my back and the other helped me raise the bowl my lips. I stuttered. “Please, tell me this is the last of it.” Nexxie’s eyes twinkled in amusement. “It is…. don't worry.” When I bit into the warm bread, I closed my eyes in delight. The food here was so good. A far cry from the stale leftovers and burnt food I was used to eating at home. Heavy footsteps walked towards my room door from the outside. Even before seeing him, I knew that it was the Alpha. His footsteps and the sudden aura that enveloped the room exuded authority. The room door opened and everyone on the room, bowed. Alpha Caspian. “Leave, everyone.” He commanded, and everyone scurried out, heads bowed, muttering apologies. I was left alone on the bed, my mouth sinking in the warm bread, looking up like a timid mouse. He sat on a chair, quietly observing me. His stares were making me difficult to chew. His eyes were dark and unreadable. Was he angry with me? I took some time to admire this fine wolf-man. Light filtered in front the windows and caught on the sharp angles of his face that made him look both dangerous and devastatingly fine. His gorgeous hair was dark and tousled like he just ran his hands through them. He radiated quiet confidence, and the more he looked at me, the more the butterflies In my stomach fluttered. He waited till I licked the last butter of the bread off my fingers. “Last night when you came running out of the forest terrified, I want you to tell me everything that you saw there.” I didn't want to remember the terror that happened so I decided to lie. “I don't remember. It all happened in a flash.” His expression darkened before he stood up to his full height. I gulped. He advanced closer to my bed and each step carried a death threat. “First rule in my house as an Alpha. You do not lie to me. I will not tolerate it.” Crispy whimpered. I balked. “I'm so sorry, my lord.” “So many people died that night when you ventured into that forest so I want answers.” He growled. I stuttered, terrified. He was in Alpha beast mode and my stomach quavered in fear. “My wolf was running wild in the forests. We got lost and my steps led me into this bush clearing with an antique cabin seating in the middle of it. Curiosity made me check out the cabin and when I opened the door, darkness swirled and took form.” I swallowed. Even the thoughts of it's malevolent aura shook me. “It wasn't an animal. It wasn't a rogue.” It felt familiar. But I wasn't going to tell him that, nor the Come Home part. “It felt ancient, like it breathed from the ground.” His jaw tensed. “It whispered.” I added in a small voice. “It made my wolf curl up and hide. My feet moved before I realized I was running.” CASPIAN There was something she was holding back. I could hear it. I could feel it. The stuttering in some parts of her narration. Her holding back. I stared at her, long after she finished, trying to piece two and two together. If Seraphina made those dark beasts dormant why would they reawaken at Micah's coming. If Micah was who I thought she was; a sage wolf, the spirits should shrink back at her presence, not come alive. And yet, she was unharmed. It made no sense. “You said it was ancient. Did it call out to you?” Her eyes formed little beads. She was attempting to lie to me again. I narrowed my eyes. What was she hiding? Why? “No.” She hesitated. “It watched me, it felt really familiar. Like it knew me.” A knock interrupted us. A voice sounded through the door. “My Lord.” It was Nexxie. “Your wives await you in the courtyard for the tasting ceremony.” I closed my eyes. Argh. Goddess. It was a monthly food battle between the wives. Whoever won would be the Luna of the week. It was no longer about love and getting closer to the Alpha, it was pure politics wrapped in rich foods and curry flavor. Moreso, I didn't want to leave this conversation and the gnawing curiosity that Micah had stirred in me. When I opened my eyes, I could see her pretty face leaned more forwards, beaming with curiosity. “We'll continue this later.” I murmured, eyes lingering on her smooth, innocent face. I stood up slowly and left.
