Chapter 4

Zach only glanced at it twice, then tossed the phone back to Tyler. "Marry who?" Tyler nodded along. "Exactly. You know Anna. She's crazy about you—no way she marries some other guy." Vivian leaned in from the side. "Zach, stop looking. She's probably just mad I dragged you over. Go back later, say something sweet, and it'll all blow over. She's my best friend—don't you think I know her?" Tyler spoke up. "Zach, want me to go check on that side? I'll keep you posted." He shook his phone. Zach's eyes flickered. "No need. No way." But his rubbing fingers gave away the unease. "Actually—go. Sweet-talk her a little. I'll be right behind you." Zach watched Tyler disappear, an itch of something he couldn't name sitting in his chest. Vivian looped her arm through his, sweet. "Zach, what are you spacing out for? Come on, the groom's game isn't done—my program can't fall apart. I'm not letting you leave till you finish." Zach gave a helpless smile. "Fine. I'll see it through with you." Two steps later he stopped again, his tone serious. "Vivian—after Anna and I are married, don't come running to me over every little thing. Anna overthinks, gets jealous. I'll have to look after her feelings." "Yeah, yeah, yeah." A flicker of jealousy crossed Vivian's face, then she tilted her head and cooed, "But this isn't exactly a normal situation, is it?" Meanwhile, Tyler had made it back to my banquet hall. He'd barely pushed the door open when he froze. At the end of the red carpet, Chris was taking me from my father's hand. The clock struck noon. In the next hall, Zach was being pulled by Vivian into the bouquet toss. Groomsmen and bridesmaids whooped in a circle; Vivian threw the bouquet back over her shoulder, and Zach got shoved into the crowd to catch it, whistles and cheers all around. The instant he caught it, his phone buzzed hard in his pocket. Before he could look, Vivian snatched the phone, unlocked it with a fingerprint she clearly knew by heart, powered it off, and set it face-down on the table with a smile. "Can't have these messages distracting you. Focus, Zach—up next is cutting the cake." Derek, next to him, frowned and lowered his voice. "Zach, this… isn't great, is it? Didn't we agree it was just a walk-through and then we'd leave? If Anna finds out—" Zach was about to say no when Vivian grabbed his sleeve and cooed, "Zach, my parents are still here. You said today I call the shots, didn't you?" While Zach wavered, Tyler suddenly came rushing over. "Zach! Damn it—why didn't you check your messages?" He shoved the phone in his face, frantic. Zach frowned at the long string of Tyler's texts. And when he made out the video, his eyes went wide.
