Ethan's eyes burned with rage as he strode into the living room, his fists clenched at his sides. "What is the meaning of this?" he demanded, his voice laced with fury.
Mr. Evans rose from his seat, as he gave a sinister wink,
"Ah, Ethan, so nice of you to join us. We were just discussing your...situation."
"My situation?" Ethan spat. "What are you plotting? Forging a death certificate? Trying to marry off my wife to this - this man?" He gestured angrily at Walter, who shrunk back in his seat.
Mr. Evans chuckled darkly. "You were never truly alive in the first place, Ethan. A worthless bastard, that's all you've ever been. So why not make it official?"
His blood boiled as the familiar insults echoed in his mind, reminding him of the a***e he had endured at the hands of the Eldridge family. "How dare you!" he roared. "I am alive, more alive than you'll ever be, you pathetic excuse for a man!"
Mr. Evan took a step forward in an attempt to drive him away, but Max quickly stepped in, attempting to teach Mr. Evan a horrible lesson. However, Ethan raised his hand, signaling for Max to hold back.
Ethan glared at Max, "Leave it to me, Max. My so-called father-in-law deserves everything he gets. I will teach him a lesson myself."
Mr. Evans smirked, sensing Ethan's loss of control. "What's the matter, Ethan? Can't handle the truth? You're nothing but a burden, a stain on this family. We're doing you a favor by getting rid of you."
"A favor?" Ethan snarled. "You think forging my death certificate is doing me a favor? I'm not dead, you bastard! I'm standing right here, alive and breathing!"
Mr. Evans approached Ethan, his eyes narrowed. "That's where you're wrong, boy. As far as we're concerned, you might as well be dead. You're worthless, a waste of space. Lily deserves better than you."
Ethan's jaw clenched, and he could feel the anger bubbling inside him, threatening to consume him. "Lily is my wife. You have no right to take her away from me!"
"Don't make me laugh. You're just a parasite, clinging to the Eldridge family's name and the Evans' wealth. Well, no more. It's time for you to disappear, Ethan."
He gestured to Walter, who stepped forward with a checkbook in hand. "Here, Ethan. Take this, and get out of our lives. One million dollars should be more than enough to start over somewhere else."
Ethan stared at the check, as he clenched his fist with his face bright red.
"You think you can buy me off with money? I'm worth more than a million dollars, you pathetic excuse for a man."
With that, he tore the check in half, letting the pieces flutter to the ground. "I don't want your blood money. Lily is my wife, and I'm not going anywhere."
Mr. Evans' face contorted with fury. "You insolent fool! Do you have any idea how much that could have changed your life? You're throwing away your chance at a better future!"
"Better future?" Ethan scoffed. "The only thing that matters to me is Lily. She's the only one who's ever truly cared about me in this family. I won't let you take her away from me, no matter what you do."
Mr. Evans took a step forward, his eyes narrowed. "Then I'll make sure you get divorced, whether you like it or not. Lily will be free, and she'll be able to marry Walter. It's the only way."
Ethan's jaw clenched, " The only way Lily and I will get divorced is if she wants it herself."
As if on cue, Lily said, "Ethan?" she breathed out.
Lily rushed to Ethan's side, reaching up to cup his face in her hands. "Ethan, I can't believe it's you. I've missed you so much."
Ethan wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. "I'm here, Lily. I'm not going anywhere."
Mr. Evans let out a frustrated growl. "Lily, what are you doing? This man is not your husband. He's a burden, a stain on our family's name. You deserve better."
Lily turned to her father, her eyes narrowed. "No, Father. Ethan is my husband. I won't divorce him, no matter what you say."
Mr. Evans' face twisted with fury. "You ungrateful girl! Do you have any idea what you're throwing away? The Smiths' business alliance, the wealth and power it would bring? All for this worthless bastard?"
Mr. Evans opened his mouth to protest, but Walter finally spoke up, his voice surprisingly calm. "Mr. Evans, perhaps we should reconsider our plans. I think I will be taking back what I previously said, due to the fact that the terms were not reached"
Mr. Evans turned to Walter, his eyes narrowed. "What are you saying, boy? Are you backing out of our arrangement?"
Walter shook his head, his gaze steady.
"Yes..."
Walter walked out of the house, a seductive smile spreading across his face. "Don't worry, I assure you that you'll come back crawling to me, and my terms will be higher than this," he said, l*****g his lips.
"f**k off! She wouldn't be meeting you for anything" Ethan glanced at him with an icy look. Walter gulped down an invisible lump. He also wasn't expecting the reaction and he was frightened by the fearful looks of Ethan.
He cowered in fear as he rushed and passed Ethan.
Mr. Evan turned to Lily, his expression cold. "Since you've thrown away our only deal, you can use this opportunity to get out of my house with your good-for-nothing daughter."
Ethan's eyes widened in shock. "You have a daughter?" he repeated, as he was surprised.
Lily's face paled, and she took a step back, as if afraid of Ethan's reaction.
