Once they got into town, they headed over to the tack and feed store. "There's a lot we have to get today." Philip said as they parked and started walking. The doors opened and they walked into the store revealing big aisles full of tack and feed that every horse owner could ever need and want. "Well first on the list is a quality made saddle for each of us with matching pieces and we also need two saddle stands. Dad said not to worry about the price." Philip said as they began to look at each saddle up on the wall racks. "The saving grace is they pair up all the tack. Look at this beautiful ranch saddle." Evangeline told Philip. It had a beautiful rope pattern engraved into the leather on the cantle that had been engraved through the rest of it. There was a matching bridle with a leather halter, breast collar and reins as well. The whole set was worth $5,000 and Philip's was the same. His tack set had barbed wire for the engraving instead of rope. They moved on to look at all the saddle pads so they could see which ones were best. "We could always get the red one for Salem and the blue one for me." Philip suggested as he grabbed Evangeline's hand. "That sounds like a good idea my love." she said as they each grabbed their saddle pad. "Dad also said to grab everything we need for the barn as well." Philip reminded her as they continued through the store.
Just as they were about to reach the back, Evangeline got a phone call on her cell phone. "Hello?" She answered. "Hey I just realized that you guys won't have enough room to bring everything home. I'm going to send a couple of the ranch hands with two trucks and trailers. In the smaller trailer put all the stuff for your barn in and put everything for the house into your bigger trailer I'm sending. The boys will leave the trailers where they are going to be unloaded." John said as they hung up the phone quickly. Fifteen minutes later the ranch hands showed up. "Hey guys, we got everything for the barn ready to go into the trailer." Evangeline said as they opened the trailer door. In the front of the trailer they put the saddles and tack in on the racks. It was placed in and everything was nicely organized. The ranch hands and Philip started loading up feed and feed storage bins into the back of the trailer. "I'll be following you guys into the big city for all the furniture. John said he made a few phones calls already and we just have to go in and pick it all up." the ranch hand said as they headed for the other two trucks. The small trailer headed back to the ranch and got put by their barn.
As Evangeline, Philip and the second ranch hand got into the city, they headed to two of the biggest furniture stores around. None of the three knew what was in all the boxes and there wasn't much to say what type of furniture was in each box. They loaded up the trailer and headed back to the ranch to unload. Once all three got back to the ranch, everyone started helping the couple unload. "Evangeline, I need you in the garage." John said as he motioned for her to come over to him. "I took the liberty of getting a couple large deep freezes for food for you guys. They're fully stocked and we got you all of your kitchen supplies in that burnt metal rainbow look you like." John said as he showed her everything they had done while the two were gone. "Thank you so much!!!" she exclaimed with joy as she continued back outside to help the boys move more stuff into the house.
After everyone had got the trailers unloaded and all the furniture was put together and put away, the group all gathered in the kitchen. "I would like to invite everyone back for supper tonight around 7pm, as a thank you for all of your help." Evangeline announced. The group agreed so Evangeline and Philip headed into the garage to grab what they needed for dinner. "I'm thinking about making a roast in the smoker and getting it nice and tender. I was gonna do some homemade coleslaw with baked potatoes as well." Evangeline told Philip as they went through the freezers. "That sounds delicious my dear!" Philip said as he grabbed the things they needed from Evangeline. The two finished gathering the rest of the ingredients then headed to the kitchen to start making dinner. "I wonder if anyone told the cook and the maid in the main house." Evangeline said as she started grabbing the dishes to prepare the dinner. "I'm not sure my love but I'll run over and make sure that they know to come here for supper." he responded. Philip dried off his hands with the towel and headed to let the other ladies know. Evangeline finished preparing the dinner and got ready to cook it. There was a lot of work that had to been done for this dinner but she knew she needed to show her absolute best. Everything was ready to go except the baked potatoes and the roast. She put them all in the oven to cook while she went to her barn and got things set up.
Philip and Evangeline had left their horses in the main barn until the stalls and paddock were ready for them. Evangeline opened the doors to the cherry red stained wooden barn. There was a lot that she hadn't noticed when she first saw her house and she knew the barn would be the same. As she walked into the barn on the left were the food storage bins and on the right was the tack room. She headed to the food bins and grabbed 2 scoops of oats and 2 scoops of pellets into two buckets. Then she filled up the water buckets and headed to the stalls. Both stalls were directly beside each other. The stall doors were made of steel and slid on the tracks to open. Evangeline had never seen a barn so nice in her life. She put each bucket of grains into the bottom of their feed troughs. She grabbed a couple flakes of hay for each horse and put it in their troughs. She loved to surprise the horses with their grains and pellets under their feed. On the back of the barn was a big garage door. At first, Evangeline wasn't too sure why the change in doors and that's when she noticed the alley way behind the barn. The barn had been set up so the paddock was behind the barn and twenty feet in each length to the sides. In the middle of the paddock was an alley way. The horses could go on either side or be separated. Evangeline opened up the stall doors on the right hand side of the barn and opened the main doors so the horses could go into their paddock when they were brought over. The two stalls on the left side of the barn were the secondary stalls for Evangeline and Philip in case they wanted to add two more horses to their family.
Once Evangeline had finished up in her barn, she headed over to the main barn. She walked in and grabbed Salem then tacked him up then returned to grab Philip's horse Gunpowder. She mounted Salem and held Gunpowder's lead rope as they rode back over to her barn. She brought both horses in and tied them to their stalls. As she untacked Salem and groomed the horses, she thought about what she could do to help the ranch make more money. She finished grooming the horses and turned them out into the paddock behind the barn. She put their halters up on the hooks on the stalls and headed out of the barn. It's been a long time since I've ever felt this happy and content with my life. My whole world revolves around my animals, a wonderful man and this beautiful ranch. I will never be able repay John for what he's given us. Evangeline thought to herself as she walked into her house to check on the dinner.
