Philip had a fire and passion for Evangeline that even he couldn't explain. Evangeline had the same fire and passion for Philip. With new changes and big changes in life, this meant she wouldn't be able to live the lone wolf lifestyle but as she thought about it, she realized she no longer wanted that life anymore. She wanted the life where she could settle down and raise a family with a solid man she would be proud to call her husband. Evangeline never thought she would get that life so she continued to be the lone wolf.
As she walked out of her room and down the stairs to the dining room for breakfast, she noticed that everyone was smiling and staring at her as she made her way to the table. "Evangeline, you can come sit in my spot and I'll trade you for yours." one of the ranch hands said as he waved her over. His spot was right beside Philip but she highly doubted that anyone really knew about their relationship. "Good morning everyone. I'm glad to see you're all here at the table this morning. Philip and Evangeline, you two will meet us in the stables in about an hour. I need you guys to go and water the garden. There some additional nutrients in a bottle that connects to the garden hose to promote growth. You'll both have to do the watering by hand but there's a splitter to run two hoses off the hydrant to help get the job done. Everyone else, after breakfast we will head over to the stables to turn out the horses for the day in the paddocks." the ranch boss said before they all began eating.
When breakfast was finished Evangeline and Philip headed to the garden. Philip had a surprise for her and everyone on the ranch knew about it but Evangeline. As Philip and Evangeline watered the garden with the supplements given to them by the ranch boss everyone else was in the stables getting everything ready for the two of them. It wasn't going to be easy but they knew they'd all get it done in an hour. If things went as planned it would be done before Philip and Evangeline made it to the stables. As they watered the garden Philip kept getting closer to Evangeline. He couldn't help himself. He had fallen in love with this woman. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." he said to break the ice. "I knew you were following me and watching me close, but I never thought that I'd end up here with you. I kinda like my new life." she said with a smile. They continued getting the watering done and headed over to the stables.
When they walked into the stables they noticed there were streamers and all the horses were out of their stalls. Philip knew exactly what was going on but didn't show any sort of hindrance that gave it away. Evangeline walked beside Philip with her arm intertwined in his. He knew everyone would be behind the stables and out of sight for the big event that was about to happen. They walked down the aisle of the stables and Evangeline noticed it was lined with streamers and on the concrete floor they had placed down the rubber mats creating a walkway. They reached the end of the aisle and opened the big wooden sliding barn doors to find everyone sitting at the picnic tables. Everyone was sitting quietly.
As they all sat there quietly watching Philip and Evangeline, she asked, "what's going on Philip?". Philip dropped down on one knee. "Evangeline, you are the most beautiful, intelligent woman I have ever laid my eyes on. I want to give you a life full of happiness and good health. Would you, Evangeline, do the honor of marrying me?" he asked confidently. "Philip, I don't know what to say." she said with shock and awe on her face. "Say yes!!!" the other ranch hands started shouting. "YES!!" she shrieked. Philip placed the ring on her finger and stood up. Evangeline kissed him and smiled with a sense of accomplishment. They walked forward towards the tables and sat down with the others. "What made you decide to propose?" Evangeline asked Philip. "I knew that you were the one and I knew that I could give you the life you deserve my girl." he replied. The two ate their dinner together with the others and continued talking about the day. "Now that you two are engaged, you're going to need a house to live in together instead of two separate rooms." the ranch boss spoke up and said. "The boys and I have a surprise for you two after dinner tonight." he added as he took a bite of his steak. "Thank you, but you guys really didn't have to." Evangeline said with a red glow on her face. "You two deserve it and need it. That also means I can hire two more ranch hands and get things moving a lot better around here." he stated as he continued to eat his steak.
Once everyone had finished dinner, the group walked together over to the main ranch house. Behind the ranch house there was a big area that had been surrounded by trees. It had been on the ranch for years but no one ever used it. It had been fenced off with chain link for the most part and the rest was left as it was found. Where there had once been that big clearing that Philip remembered as a child, had been replaced by a two story house with an iron fence around the large front yard that had been landscaped with a pond in one half and fenced off with short chain link fencing. On the other half was a big area they could use for company and family to relax in. There was a fire pit with a picnic table and a nice stone path. The first floor of the house had a wrap around porch big enough for a large group of people to mingle on. Inside the front entrance was a small porch with closets for coats and footwear. As they walked into the house further they noticed an office to the right and the dining room to the left. in front of them was a hallway that led all the way through the house and out to the back porch leading into the yard. Up the stairs were the bedrooms. All four bedrooms were lined up on the right hand side of the staircase and had separate doors to a second wrap around porch on the top level of the house. The master bedroom had two walk in closets and a large bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a large shower with glass panel doors. The floor of the bathroom was marble tile and the stairs leading up the tub had been made with small river stone and cement. As they continued to make their way to the back yard they had noticed all the qualities of the house that helped make it feel like home. The far end of the backyard had been fenced off with a tall wooden fence. There was a short chain link fence separating it from the rest of the yard. "Look honey! There's a river with a little bridge back there. It's leading up to a gazebo with a grill!" Evangeline exclaimed with excitement. "You guys really didn't have to do all this." Philip said as he continued to explore the back yard.
Once everyone had finished exploring the house and admiring its beauty, they gathered for a fire in the front yard. The fire pit was made of steel and had horses cut out with Evangeline and Philip's names in it. Beside the fence they noticed an extra piece for the fire pit, it was a grill insert so they were able to cook on it as well as watch the beauty a fire beheld. It had been an easy day of work but overall a good day. The new house in all it's beauty was more than Philip and Evangeline could've ever imagined. This beautiful house in the trees, was now the home where they'd live together, work together and create new memories with themselves and the rest of the ranch.
