"Hey anyone wanna play water dodgeball?" Philip asked as he grabbed the bag of medium sized rubber balls. The group started cheering and shouting for Philip to toss them a ball. Philip threw everyone a ball and tossed the rest in the pool. Evangeline and Amy joined in the battle with the others. Everyone had a great time splashing around and having some drinks. John settled into a chair on the deck that overlooked the pool. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and started looking at furniture for his first grandchild. He had more excitement inside him but he knew he couldn't show it yet. As he continued his search he found a beautiful, cherry red stained, wood crib with matching dresser, change table and all the other furniture for a perfect nursery. The entire set was worth $3000 but he knew it would be worth it. He continued to search and found a website that had everything for a baby's essential needs. He added baby bottles, a stroller, 4 high end car seats and a bunch of clothing into the cart. John wanted to go all out for his new grandchild. After all, he knew that the struggle of being a new parent is hard enough without worrying about the cost of everything. After he continued his shopping online, he sent a text to a couple of the ranch hands letting them know he would be needing their help.
John put his phone away and continued to watch the group as they played their game of water dodgeball. Evangeline and Amy had grown tired from all the jumping and splashing around they were doing and headed out of the pool to rest for a little while. "I had some other news from the doctor today. John knows and has agreed not to say anything. I need you to do the same Amy." Evangeline said with a look of worry on her face. "Anything." Amy said as she too started to worry. "I found out I'm pregnant and I have no idea how to tell Philip or what his opinion is." she said as she buried her head in her arms. "It'll be alright girl. Let John talk to Philip and see what his opinion is on the idea of family. I heard you guys talking earlier but that was the only part of the conversation I heard. It wasn't my place to ask so I didn't think about it anymore after that." Amy said as she moved closer to Evangeline. Evangeline lifted her head to see a bright faced smiling Amy. "Thank you!" Evangeline cried. The two women continued talking about other areas of their lives and watched as the others continued to splash around, whipping each other with rubber balls.
As it got closer to supper time everyone jumped out of the pool and changed into some dry clothing. Evangeline and Philip decided to take everyone into town for dinner. There had been a local Chinese restaurant and the ranch hands usually loved going there. Evangeline kept thinking about the pregnancy as her and Philip jumped into the truck. During the ride, the two made small talk. Philip knew there was something going on but he had no idea what. They pulled up to the restaurant and got a large table big enough to fit everyone. They all sat down and ordered their meals and drinks. "Honey why don't you have a glass of your favorite wine. It might help release the tension." Philip suggested as he took her hand. "The doctor said I'm not allowed to have any alcoholic drinks." Evangeline said as she grabbed Philip's hand as well. "My love, is there something you're not telling me?" Philip asked with a look of concern on his face. Evangeline knew that everyone would find out sooner or later. Everyone sat and talked as they waited on their food. Once the food arrived, Evangeline stood up. "I have an announcement." She said as she stood at the side of the table shaking. "What is it?" The ranch hands asked. "I'm pregnant. Philip and I are going to have a baby." The group at the table stood up and clapped. "Why didn't you tell me?" Philip asked. "I wasn't too sure how to tell you so I figured this was the best way." Evangeline replied. Philip picked her up and hugged her. Evangeline knew John didn't have any time to speak to his son but everything seemed to go over well.
The two continued forward with dinner as usual while discussing what was going to happen with their baby in the future. "I'm really glad I got the chance to tell you about the pregnancy." Evangeline said as she took another bite of her dinner. "I can't wait my love. How are you feeling about it all?" Philip asked as he too took another bite of his dinner. "I'm nervous...... well I was nervous. I had no idea how you would react to the news. Pregnancy wise, I feel good for the most part." Evangeline responded. John was listening to the conversation as he ate his dinner. "Philip, Evangeline, I'm going to have to send you two into town tomorrow with the horse trailer. There's a couple horses at the rodeo grounds that need to be picked up." John said as he sat up in his chair a bit. "Alright, not a problem Dad." Philip said as he continued eating. After dinner had concluded and everyone cleaned up, Philip and Evangeline headed to bed. They knew they had an early day and new horses were always a challenge.
Philip and Evangeline woke up the next morning and headed into town with their truck and horse trailer. "Alright guys, there's a truck coming today with stuff for the baby's nursery. I wanna get everything assembled and get the nursery set up and ready before they come home tonight. I'm gonna need all hands ready for this." John said as the truck pulled into the yard. "They're already here. The truck wasn't supposed to be here for another two to three hours." John said as everyone headed outside. A young scruffy looking kid jumped out of the delivery truck. "Hello. I'm looking for a gentleman by the name of John. I got quite the delivery here." He said as he looked up from his clipboard. "That would be me. Follow us to the far side of the yard and we can help get you unloaded." He said as he jumped into the truck. The ranch hands all hopped into the box and got ready for their short trip to Evangeline and Philip's house. They backed the delivery truck up to the house and showed the driver which room was going to be for the nursery. Evangeline had already picked the room by putting a sign on the door and emptying the room out. As the delivery driver unloaded the boxes, the ranch hands created a line where they could pass stuff to each other and get it to the room. Once the truck had been unloaded. John and three of the ranch hands started to assemble the boxes. The truck left and headed out. "Hey boss, that was perfect timing. Philip just texted and said they're on their way back already." one of the hands said as he looked out the window. "Call up the boys in the barn and tell them to keep those two busy for an hour or two." John said as he picked up the pace on the furniture assembly.
