ARIEL
It had been five years since I had died, since I had left the Howler’s Pack, and now tonight my pack and I were going back to attack.
I had been avoiding the pack ever since the goddess had given me another chance in the body of the Alpha of a rogue pack. But after one of their own had killed Seraphim and her child, I would show no mercy.
The blood of a female always ignited an unquenchable fire in me.
I had made it my motto that as long as I lived, injustice—especially against females—would never be tolerated.
“Baby, don’t you think you should rest?” Daniel’s concerned voice broke the silence in the room as I stared out my window.
Just an inch, a fragment of my hardened heart melted at the sound of his voice.
“I want to be left alone,” I said, even though I didn’t mean it, my finger scratching the glass absentmindedly.
Daniel was Ariel’s mate—the true owner of this body. Unfortunately, her wolf had never gotten a second chance at life. Before that, she had been mated to Daniel.
I had tried my best to keep up the act that I was indeed Ariel all these years. Everyone believed only she had survived the accident. I was surprised Daniel didn’t despise me after knowing I was wolfless.
As much as I had forced myself not to develop feelings for him, unfortunately my veil was slowly slipping.
My breath hitched as he wrapped his arms around my waist and placed a light kiss on my neck.
“No, you don’t,” he whispered, his soft kisses trailing up my skin. “Especially not from me.”
My eyes began to flutter shut as his lips pushed aside the fabric from my shoulder. Oh goddess. He pressed his body against my behind, his breath already ragged with lust.
“Oh, Ariel.”
When his fingers began to unzip my dress, I gasped back into reality and pulled away immediately. My heart raced. I watched as he stood there, slowly clenching his fists in frustration.
“I need to be left alone… Get out of my room.”
He threw me a pained look. “For how long will you keep doing this? It’s already been five freaking years since I touched you, Ariel! I’m losing my mind.”
“If s*x is all that matters to you, you might as well end this bond and save yourself the waiting.”
A swirl of memories raced through my mind. It was like I could feel it again—the smell of rotten sweat as those men ripped my clothes from my body, having their way with me as my own sister had orchestrated it.
Daniel released a frustrated breath. “You know I’d never be able to leave you, baby.”
My heart ached. “Go tell the pack to prepare for the attack.”
I swallowed hard as I watched him storm out of the room. Daniel deserved none of what I’d done to him, but I would never take advantage of him. I had been waiting so long for him to break and cheat on me so I’d finally have an excuse to end this bond. But he kept being so painfully loyal.
He had trained me in weapons and physical strength over the years.
The darkness in me craved to unleash that power on my parents. But the Moon Goddess had made me swear that she would spare my life for only one reason: to fight injustice and fulfill the prophecy of one cursed male.
I changed into Ariel’s lucky clothes, a white garment soon to be red, and headed outside to find everyone already lined up—twenty fighters in total. I barked out an order and they all dispersed while I stepped into the car with my Beta, Elowen.
She looked at me with stern unease. “Are you sure this is a good idea, Ariel? You know how strong the Howler’s Pack is.”
“You shouldn’t be afraid. We may have few men but they had no chance against us when the moon goddess was with us.”
Her brows furrowed more in unbelief. “You saw what they did to Seraphim.”
I clenched my fists and stared out the window. “She angered the goddess by committing a******y, but the goddess never lies. You heard what the seer said—something unimaginable was going to come from this attack.”
“We are not certain if it’s good or bad, my dearest Alpha.”
“Well, I’m certain it will be positive.” My fingers reached for my pendant the goddess had given it to me. “We are not only avenging Seraphim, but I can feel it, something powerful is coming.”
I would never understand why the goddess had chosen a miserable wolfless female like me. I was still yet to uncover what the prophecy was, but I felt a pull inside me that the beginning was already here.
That the cursed male was close by.
“ARIEL!”
Elowen screamed, but it was already too late when the car tumbled as a wolf ran into it. My senses spiked; I kicked open the car door as the vehicle stopped sideways, blood trailing down my eyes.
“Elowen.” I looked down at her as she folded, holding her stomach, blood pouring down her face.
“Go, Ariel, I’ll be fine!”
Dear goddess, protect her. I got out of the car; my claws peeled out, my canines elongated while the hairs on my body rose in caution.
There was no one there, but I could smell it. Danger. They were hiding. My gaze snapped to the pendant as I felt a gleam of light reflect on me.
It was glowing.
I jerked around. I had sensed right. A white wolf nearly clawed at me but I jumped just in time. I took out my gun and shot at its leg before it could attack again.
There was only one I had to kill and that was their leader.
When I was sure the coast was clear, I turned back to the car to see the driver who was equally injured holding up Elowen.
“Take her back at once—”
“But I can’t leave you alone, my Alpha,” he choked out.
“Do as I say, Nicholas!” I snapped, in no mood for arguments.
Nicholas did as instructed, but he had already vanished when a gun pressed against the back of my neck.
My heart stopped. The pendant glowed even brighter. My chest constricted; I felt my eyes drain of their colour. His scent.
“I didn’t expect a female to be the leader of a rogue pack,” his deep, dry voice echoed in my narrow head. “You might be the first female I ever killed.
