Under Arrest

    “Carms! You have to see this! Look, our team won”Liam ran into Carmen’s room shouting. “Your mom told me you’re sick but I didn’t think you are that tired sweetie”he walked to her bed and sat down next to where she was lying.  

    “Hey Lily”She smiled weakly. He was never bothered by that childish nickname, he was used to hearing it from Carmen. “I’ve been wishing you were here so we would watch it together.”

    “I wanted to watch it with you but we were at Jack’s so we watched it there”he said as he turned off his phone and placed it in his pocket. “I know the one thing that can make you stop acting like you’re sick, you liar!”he stared at her with his evil eyes. 

    “Oh my god how do you know I’m not actually sick!”She jumped up and widened my eyes at him. 

    “Joshua told me you were texting him this morning so I instantly knew that you aren’t sick and just want to skip your math exam. Your nerd crush Joshua has told me you both have an important test. Anyways, you have to go tomorrow. Joshua told me he has a surprise for you”Liam winked as a grin was plastered on his face.

    “I wonder what is is”Carmen muttered. “I have to act like I’m better so my mom would accept that I go to school tomorrow”she laughed loudly. He cringed at her high screech. 

    “Sometimes I wonder why I’m a baby’s best friend” mocked Liam. 

    “And I wonder how I can stand being with you in the same room”she glared at him with a scowl on her eyes”You’re older than me by just two years anyways”she rolled her eyes. 

    “Aww cutie, don’t be childish right now. Holy, stop giving me that look! I’m kidding”he laughed as he hugged her and they both looked out of the window. 

    “You know Liam, I really hate that we’re still young. I feel like when we’ll grow up, we’ll go in separate ways.”

    Liam frowned at his best friend’s thoughts. She was having the same ideas as him but he didn’t want to make her think more negatively. 

    “Don’t worry, we’ll always be best friends. If we separate ways because of college, I promise you that we will see each other again. I promise you won’t die in anyway except on my hands”joked Liam, changing their moods. 

    Carmen gasped and pulled away from their hug. “I will kill you first!”she yelled as she kept on throwing punches at him.

    She was smiling with her eyes closed. A boy’s loud laugh was heard. She groaned and turned around in her bed.

    The laugh just got louder, annoying Carmen more. She groaned louder and opened her eyes. 

    She looked around with a confused look in her eyes as she noticed she was dreaming. She stared at Cody who was laughing innocently. 

    “Why are you staring at me, creepy stuff”she asked as she rubbed her eyes. 

    “You were smiling in your sleep”he chuckled, ending his laugh. 

    “I was having a nice dream of a great memory”she smiled at him. 

    “Really? What is it about” Cody asked curiously. 

    “Remember when I told you that I faked being sick and Liam found out?”

    “Oh yeah! I wish I have met Liam before he and his family traveled away”the young boy pouted. 

    Carmen had told her brother that Liam and his family had traveled to another country and lied about the truth. It always seemed as Cody was so interested in his sister’s life. 

    “Me too Coco, I wish he was here”Carmen sighed as she thought about him again. “So, Mr. Anderson, where would you like me to tickle you?”he giggled as he pushed her away. She jumped on him and started tickling him. 

    “Pl-please Co s-st-op”he begged as he was laughing out loudly. 

    “Shhh you, lower your voice. You’ll wake up the neighbors” She giggled and dragged him to the kitchen. 

    “You know Carmen, living with you is the most amazing feeling ever. You always know how to make us have fun and you work so hard to keep me in school. You even dropped out of college. I’m so grateful to you. Sorr-“

    “Stop! Don’t say anything dear. You are my world, I would die for you. Don’t ever think that you owe me anything, it’s my job to take care of you and I love doing it.”she hugged him and kissed his head. 

    It was unusual for him to call her by her first name. He only did it when he was serious. 

    “That’s why I love you.”

    “Stop growing up!”Carmen giggled as she pulled away from him. “You’re so mature already, baby”she pecked him on the cheeks and started making sandwiches for the both of them. 

    As her brother was reading a science book and she was putting back the jars in the fridge, a ring was heard. They both got startled. She walked to her phone and picked it up after looking at the id. It was Riven. 

    She took a glance at Cody before walking into the bedroom. “Hello?”she said. 

    “Hi Carmen. I have some bad news for you”he informed her straightforwardly. 

    “W-what? Is something wrong with Cody?”she asked in worry. 

    “No it’s not about him. It involves Travis Anderson. After I had searched through the hospital files, I found out that he is your father.”

    “Yeah he is. But he had died a few years ago”she answered with her heart racing loudly. 

    “Yeah I know. The strange thing is that, some p-people came asking for you.”

    Carmen froze in her place as she was staring in the mirror. ‘They have found us. They are probably in their way here. But it was too soon! We just moved here!’she thought as she was pacing in the room. 

    “Some people? W-who?”

    As she waited for an answer, she was on the verge of fainting. 

    The other side hung up. She was left staring with wide eyes at the phone. 

    Carmen rushed towards Cody and dragged him to the front door. 

    “What a-are you doing?!”he asked with a loud voice as he stopped her. 

    “Cody, we have to go now!” She said as she tried to drag him again ”Please just come. They’re on their way”said Carmen as she was staring at him with a soft glance. 

    Tears filled up in his eyes as they were going to run to the front door. But it was too late already. 

     Both of them froze when they heard the doorbell ring. They were here. They came to take them away. 

    Carmen’s young brother cried and stepped backwards. “Shhh!”she said in alarm as she bent down to him. “Don’t make a sound, they will know we’re here. We don’t want them to take us again”she whispered. 

    She walked to the door and peeked out from the window. 

    A tall silhouette was standing there wearing a suit. She took a closer look when she saw Adrian. Was he the one who asked about her in the hospital?

    She gulped down but smiled at Cody who was on the verge of crying. 

    “Don’t worry Cody, it’s just my friend”she said as she opened the door. 

    “Hello. I could’ve had three meetings in the time I had spent waiting on the door for you to open”he said sarcastically. 

    “I’m sorry Adrian, I was just a little busy making breakfast” While she was talking, Adrian looked backwards and stared back at her with a confused look on his face. Carmen stopped talking and glanced behind him. 

    It was a police car parked in front of them. Carmen frowned. The only thing she could think of was that Adrian had done something illegal and the police were following him. 

    Two police officers walked towards them. One stood beside her and the other was standing in front of her with handcuffs in his hand. 

    “You are Carmen Anderson, aren’t you?”asked the policeman. 

    “Umm yeah? May I know why you’re asking?”

    “You’re under arrest for murdering your biological father, Travis Anderson”he said coldly as he handcuffed her hands. 

    Adrian widened his eyes and shouted “What! No this is impossible!”

    “No! I didn’t do anything” yelled Carmen as she was trying to free herself from the hands of the two officers. “Cody! Tell them what happened. You know everything! Please”she looked back at her young brother who was staring at her with tears streaming down his eyes. 

    “C-Carmen didn’t do anything”he muttered. 

    “Carmen? Is this true?” Adrian asked with a pale face. 

“I didn’t kill him! It was just a horrible mistake. Please let me go!”she yelled again as she tried pushing the police officers off.      

“Sir, please let her go. I was there, she was trying to protect me”Cody cried as he ran towards them.      

The two men shared a look as they decided to take the young boy with them since he could help.      

Adrian entered his car and drove after them. He was in shock. Can an innocent lady kill a man? And her father? He was sure Carmen wouldn’t do that but he still had some doubts.
