Three month had passed since Abraham and Anna wedding.
Under Adrian Smith’s leadership, Smith Global Holdings reached new heights. Every business magazine in New York praised the young CEO for his intelligence, humility, and ability to inspire those around him.
Yet success came with a price.
Adrian’s schedule became relentless. Board meetings, international investors, charity galas, and endless business negotiations left him exhausted. Most nights, he returned to his luxurious penthouse long after midnight, only to wake before sunrise and do it all again.
One rainy Tuesday morning, Adrian glanced at his calendar and sighed.
“Another twelve meetings,” he muttered.
His assistant, Daniel Brooks, knocked gently before entering.
“Good morning, sir.”
“Morning, Daniel.”
“You have a meeting with Anderson Construction at ten, lunch with the mayor at one, and an inspection of the Grand Imperial Hotel this afternoon.”
Adrian nodded.
“Let’s get started.”
Across New York, twenty-three-year-old Elena Carter hurried through the rain with a worn backpack slung over her shoulder.
She wasn’t from a wealthy family.
After losing both of her parents several years earlier, she had been forced to leave college and work multiple jobs to support herself and her younger brother, Theo.
Life had never been easy.
But she refused to let hardship steal her kindness.
She smiled at strangers.
She helped elderly neighbors carry groceries.
She volunteered at a community shelter whenever she had free time.
Today was important.
She had an interview for a housekeeping position at the Grand Imperial Hotel one of the luxury hotels owned by Smith Global Holdings.
She couldn’t afford to lose this opportunity.
Inside the hotel, the housekeeping manager frowned as she reviewed Elena’s résumé.
“You’ve never worked in a five-star hotel.”
“No, ma’am,” Elena admitted honestly.
“But I learn quickly, and I’m willing to work hard.”
The manager studied her for a moment.
Before she could respond, the hotel suddenly buzzed with excitement.
“The CEO is here!”
Employees immediately straightened their uniforms.
Managers rushed toward the entrance.
Adrian Smith had arrived for an unannounced inspection.
Walking through the grand lobby, Adrian quietly observed every detail.
He noticed the polished marble floors.
The elegant chandeliers.
The smiling receptionists.
Everything seemed perfect
Until he heard a loud crash.
A frightened young waiter accidentally dropped an expensive tray of crystal glasses.
The sound echoed through the lobby.
Guests turned to look.
The young man froze.
“I’m… I’m so sorry.”
The hotel manager stormed forward.
“You’re fired!”
The waiter lowered his head, his face pale with fear.
Before anyone could speak…
A young woman stepped forward.
“It was an accident.”
The manager frowned.
“This doesn’t concern you.”
Elena took a deep breath.
“Everyone deserves a second chance.”
The manager’s face darkened.
“You haven’t even been hired.”
“I know,” Elena replied calmly.
“But ruining someone’s future over one mistake isn’t fair.”
The entire lobby fell silent.
Adrian watched the exchange from several feet away.
Instead of seeing a woman trying to impress anyone…
He saw someone willing to defend a complete stranger.
That caught his attention.
The manager turned toward Adrian.
“Mr. Smith, I apologize for this disruption.”
Adrian’s eyes remained fixed on Elena.
“What is your name?”
She hesitated.
“Elena Carter.”
“Were you involved in this?”
“No, sir.”
“Then why intervene?”
Elena looked at the frightened waiter.
“Because someday… I might be the one who needs mercy.”
Her answer surprised everyone.
Especially Adrian.
For a brief moment…
Neither of them spoke.
Then Adrian turned toward the manager.
“The waiter keeps his job.”
Relief flooded the young man’s face.
“And”
Adrian looked back at Elena.
“Hire Miss Carter.”
The manager blinked.
“Sir?”
“I believe someone with compassion belongs in this company.”
Elena stared at him in disbelief.
“I… I don’t know what to say.”
Adrian offered a small smile.
“You don’t have to say anything.”
“Just work hard.”
“I will,” Elena promised.
“I won’t disappoint you.”
For the first time in years
Adrian smiled without thinking.
He turned and walked away, unaware that something had quietly changed inside him.
As Elena watched him leave, she whispered to herself,
“Thank you.”
Neither of them realized
That this brief encounter would become the beginning of a love story neither had expected.
And somewhere in the distance
Someone was already watching.
A man lowered a pair of binoculars and smirked.
“So,this is the woman who caught Adrian Smith’s attention.”
He picked up his phone.
“Keep watching her,” he ordered.
“I want to know everything.”
The call ended.
