THE TRUTH BEGINS TO UNFLOD

The rain had finally stopped, but a storm was quietly gathering over the Smith family. Elena woke before dawn, unable to sleep. The words Theo had spoken the previous day echoed endlessly in her mind. “Why don’t we have any old pictures of Mom and Dad?” She opened the small wooden box that held the few family belongings she had managed to save after the accident. There were birth certificates. A few photographs. Some old letters. But something felt… incomplete. Almost as if pieces of her past had been deliberately erased. She closed the box with a sigh. “There has to be an explanation.” At Smith Global Holdings, Adrian was distracted throughout the morning. His thoughts kept returning to Elena. He remembered the sadness in her eyes the previous evening. Something was troubling her. After the board meeting ended, he called Daniel into his office. “I want you to do something for me.” “Anything, sir.” “Quietly look into Elena’s past.” Daniel looked surprised. “You think she’s hiding something?” Adrian shook his head. “No.” “I think she’s hurting.” “And I want to know why.” Daniel nodded. “I’ll begin immediately.” Meanwhile, the mysterious man stood inside a private archive room. An elderly clerk placed a dusty file on the table. “This is everything we could recover.” The man opened the file carefully. Inside were hospital records from twenty-three years earlier. One page made him smile. Infant: Female Status: Missing after hospital fire. The man laughed softly. “So…” “You survived.” He looked at Elena’s recent photograph. “You’ve been hiding in plain sight all these years.” He immediately made another phone call. “Prepare the next phase.” “It’s time for her to learn the truth.” That afternoon, Elena visited Theo after school. She found him reading quietly. “Still thinking about Mom and Dad?” she asked. Theo nodded. “I had a dream.” “What kind of dream?” “I saw a big house.” “And a woman calling your name.” Elena smiled gently. “It was only a dream.” “But it felt real.” His innocent words unsettled her. That evening, Adrian returned home carrying two tickets. “I have a surprise.” Elena looked curious. “What is it?” “A charity gala.” She laughed. “I don’t belong at events like that.” “You’ll be my guest.” She immediately shook her head. “I don’t even have a dress.” Adrian smiled. “Leave that to me.” Before she could protest, he handed her a small shopping bag. Inside was an elegant midnight-blue evening gown. Elena stared at it in disbelief. “It’s beautiful.” “I hope you like it.” She looked at Adrian. “No one has ever given me something like this.” “You deserve beautiful things.” Their eyes met. For a long moment… Neither spoke. Across town, William sat with Lucy in the garden. “I’ve been thinking,” William said quietly. “About what?” “Adrian.” Lucy smiled knowingly. “He loves her.” William nodded. “I can see it.” “But something tells me their path won’t be easy.” Lucy reached for his hand. “Love never is.” William smiled. “But it’s always worth fighting for.” The following evening… The charity gala was filled with New York’s wealthiest families. When Adrian entered the ballroom beside Elena… The room fell silent. She looked breathtaking in the midnight-blue gown. Even Adrian found himself speechless. “You look…” He smiled. “Incredible.” Elena blushed. “Thank you.” Across the ballroom, whispers spread quickly. “Who’s the woman with Adrian Smith?” “I heard she’s his housekeeper.” “That can’t be true.” “Maybe she’s more than that.” From the corner of the room… A pair of cold eyes watched every moment. The mysterious man smiled. “So…” “The whole city is beginning to notice.” He quietly slipped an envelope beneath Adrian’s seat before disappearing into the crowd. Hours later… As the gala ended, Adrian discovered the envelope. There was no name. No return address. Only one sentence typed neatly on a white sheet of paper. If you truly care about Elena Carter… ask her who she really is. Adrian’s smile disappeared. He looked across the ballroom at Elena, who was laughing with Lucy. Confusion filled his mind. Who had sent the message? And what did they know about Elena that she didn’t? Far away… The mysterious man stood on a rooftop overlooking the city. He smiled into the darkness. “The first move has been made.” “And soon…” “The truth will change every one of their lives forever.”
