Long, long time ago all people had four legs and two heads. And then the Gods threw down thunderbolts and split everyone into two. Each half then had two legs and one head. But the separation left both sides with a desperate yearning to be reunited because they each shared the same soul. And ever since then, all people spend their lives searching for the other half of their soul.
It was no secret that Elena Cortdale waited all her life for her mate to come into her life and sweep her off her paws. Elena was the princess of the Eastern Mountain Pack and everyone adored her. Elena oozed kindness and every wolf either looked up to Elena or adored her. She was loved by everyone.
Everyone predicted that she would have a strong and handsome mate who would worship the ground she walks and the air she breaths.
She enjoyed her morning runs along the mountains as she reaches the top giving her the breathtaking view of her pack's territory. Also on the top of the highest mountain laid an unlit beacon, the beacon was only lit if the pack was at war or needed aid from their allied pack. Their allied packs were also neighboring packs so it was easy for them to see the beacon. The last time it was lit which was a decade ago and that was during the great rogue war.
After staring at her beloved home she'd run to the highest cliff of the mountain and enjoyed the view of her home. She was proud of her home that was nested in the mountains of Alaska. Just like her white home her long locks matched as if she was born out from snow. Her platinum blonde hair matched well with her silky white skin, and red plushy lips. It was like she walked out from a fairy tale book. Her hazel eyes held no fear as if she wasn't afraid of anything.
Elena was always in high spirits no matter what situation but no one knew that the person who completes her life was going to be the person who puts out that fearless spark in her eyes.
The pack was in a joyous mood as all three of their allied packs were going to visit for a celebration. A celebration that all four packs fought in at the great rogue war and was victorious. And their dear Elena was in the most joyous moods of all. She was certain that she'd meet her mate that night. She wore her white ballerina dress and she looked absolutely stunning in it.
Elena was chatting away her time with her best friend, Sadie. "My wolf is going nuts Sadie. I can feel him near me already." Elena said with much excitement. Sadie and Elena have been best friends since little kids. Elena was the daughter of the Alpha while Sadie was the daughter of the Beta. And just like them, their older brothers were best friends as well.
Sadie is a tall and strong woman. She had a slight tan to her skin and long dark locks that tumbled in waves. She was of Filipino descent, and seemed to be the sporty independent type. But deep down inside she was a nice girl with a huge sweet tooth.
"I'll never understand your yearning to have a mate. If it were up to me I'd never have a mate." Sadie expressed her opinion. Unlike Elena, Sadie was against mates. It was understandable for Sadie for her brother was a man w***e and she said that whoever was her brother's mate was a very unlucky person.
"You won't be saying that once you've found your mate. I bet on the first day you meet him you'll be begging him to claim you." which earned a slap to the shoulder from Sadie. Elena laughed at her expression as both girls started making their way to the celebration that was in full swing.
The celebration was full of people eating, laughing, and dancing. Horny unmated wolves ground themselves on each other. Elena and Sadie stood to the side drinking beer and laughing at the unmated wolves making a fool of themselves.
Elena's wolf seemed restless just standing there and she kept fidgeting with her hands. Her eyes darting to different eyes of unmated men hoping one of them was her mate. When she couldn't take it any longer she said to Sadie "I'm going to go for a run."
Sadie nodded and asked, "Want me to come with you?"
"I don't wanna miss anything. Video it in case your brother does something that he'll regret." which earned a laugh from Sadie.
The celebration took place in the backyard of the pack house where a bonfire was lit in the middle. Inside the pack house were the high ranking members of each pack either discussing plans for the future or catching up with old friends. The relationship between each allied pack was strong that they all felt like family. Only once a year would they gather and become one.
Elena made her way to the forest in hopes her wolf would calm down. But before she could start stripping she smelt the most alluring scent ever which was sandalwood and a hint of musky aftershave. For a moment she stood there basking in the captivating smell. When she felt her wolf practically trying to claw her way out her eyes snapped open at the realization.
Mate.
Her head whirled around almost in desperation. Looking for the source of the enticing smell, a scent she could get used to, a scent she'll be breathing in for the rest of her life. Her heart soared at the thought of her mate being nearby. Her skin crawled with goose bumps and her heart beating erratically almost as if it would leap right out of her chest.
Suddenly she felt a presence behind her and her whole body tensed.
This is it.
She turned around slowly and her heart fluttered, her mind blew into a million colors. Her hazel eyes met a mesmerizing deep ocean blue and knew instantly that they belong to the person she'll spend with for eternity. From his eyes comes intensity, an honesty, and a gentleness that lured her in and lulled her into a snuggle of safeness.
He had tousled jet-black hair, which was thick and lustrous. His face was strong and defined, almost as if the moon goddess molded him perfectly just to spoil Elena. He had dark eyebrows, which sloped downwards in a serious expression. His soft sharp lips were very attractive and captivating that Elena yearns to push her lips upon immediately.
A prominent jaw curved gracefully around and the strength of his neck showed in the twining cords of muscle that shaped his entire body. His sun-kissed skin littered across his body which was built to protect and to fight, and to Elena, he looked like the strongest man alive.
She watched him make the first move, there was something of the warrior in him combined with a gentleness that made her heart reach out. Once he was standing right in front of her, a genuine grin spread across his face, turning from handsome into divine. In that moment she melted into a puddle beneath her feet.
"I've found you at last..." his deep volcanic voice spoke which sent pleasurable shivers down Elena's body. Elena was speechless knowing that not only the bond itself but the attraction runs deep to her core. They were like magnets trying to find each other's way to the other. Static filled the air surrounding them.
"What's your name angel?" already giving her nickname which made her heart burst into butterflies. The mate pull was strong between them she felt that if she was at the ends of the world she could still feel the pull towards him.
"Elena Cortdale." she spoke softly. He shut his eyes as he groaned in content at the sound of her voice. As he opened them again he raised his hand and push strands of hair behind her ear and they felt the tingles as he then cupped her cheek with his hand.
The moment was perfect. It was just like Elena's has always dreamed of. But her mate is beyond what she had ever dreamed of. She could feel that he was no ordinary wolf warrior, everything from physical to his aura screamed Alpha.
Elena leaned into his touch enjoying the warmth and the feeling of safeness. But as she opened her eyes to look into his, his smile faded and his soft expression was suddenly replaced with a frown. The static in the air multiplied almost as if he was angry.
"I'm sorry." he said softly and all of a sudden he growled angrily making Elena gasp and take a step back from the power of his growl. Elena was confused why he was acting in such a way. But she was soon answered by his next words but confusion never left her.
"I, Derrek Carmichael, Alpha of Northern Woodland pack reject you, Elena Cortdale as my mate and Luna."
Elena whimpered as she stumbled back. Tears filled her eyes as she felt her heart slowly breaking. She felt her wolf howling in utter sadness as she put her hands on her mouth to keep her from sobbing out loud.
"Why?" she cried out but his stare seemed to cut right through her. He looked at her as if she was the most repelling creature of all unlike his loving and gentle stare just mere minutes ago. He growled and his eyes glowed as he spoke darkly "I don't have to explain myself to you."
Tears were running down Elena's beautiful face like a waterfall. "Accept the rejection." Derrek said. Elena wanted to scream out loud but instead, she kept quiet.
"No." she whimpered. His eyes sharpened as if he was literally glaring daggers at her. "Accept the rejection." he sternly said.
"No." this time her voice was strong.
"I said to accept the rejection." he commanded in his Alpha voice and as much as Elena is the daughter of the Alpha, she stumbled back a bit. Derrek's voice filled with power and not only did she feel his power but she felt hurt.
"Never... I've waited all my life to meet you and I will never reject you and... you know what? I don't have to explain myself to you." she said as strongly as she can through tears as her bottom lip quivered in sadness. Derrek stared at her bottom lip like he wanted to caress it, to stop it from feeling all the pain. Elena immediately noticed and bit her bottom lip to the point where it drew a bit of blood.
Derrek growled loudly as he turned around and stormed away. Once he was out of sight Elena fell to her knees and her shoulders shook violently from her sobs.
She felt a heartache of a million heartbreaks. She kept choking on her sobs as if her throat would close right up. In all of her 19 years, she's waited for the other half of her soul only to be faced with her worst nightmare; rejection.
Elena has never seen a rogue before but she'd rather face an army of rogues than being rejected by the one person she's destined to be with. She wanted to claw her heart out just so she cannot feel the pain. She doesn't understand why her mate rejected her. She saved herself for her mate, she was the Alpha's daughter, what did she lack?
They were going so well until all of a sudden he rejected her. She raked her brain for answers only to come up with none. She then bolted into a run, heading towards her home. Stumbling and almost tripping along the way since she was sobbing and at the same time, she felt like giving up. Once she reached a big house, the Alpha's house, she entered the empty house and made way towards her room.
She kept running her hand through her hair not knowing what to do or how to get rid of the pain. It felt as if her heart was being squeezed dry. Her lungs being cut off from air and her muscles suddenly giving up on her.
She felt suffocating that she ran towards the kitchen and grabbed a knife, ready to stab right through her heart. She couldn't live without her other half. She just wanted everything to go away. And the only way she couldn't feel anything is she dies...
Couldn't feel anything...
She thought to herself. She dropped the knife to the ground and knew instantly what to do. But she felt hesitant in doing what she was about to do. She loved everyone in her pack, she loved her territory and especially her wolf. They mean everything to her but all she knew at the moment was to get rid of the pain. The pain of the bond crumbling and her mate's rejection. It was all too much for her little heart to handle.
She slowly walked to her room as she stared at each picture that littered her wall. Seeing pictures of her and her parents, her older brother, Jasper. Her and Sadie. She felt sad that she won't be seeing them but she had to do it or the pain will drive her crazy that she would take her own life.
Once she reached her room she started packing. From clothes to important documents. She started writing a letter to her family telling her mate rejected her but not telling who it was. She knew her mate was the Alpha of one of the allied packs. She couldn't risk breaking the relationship between her pack and his pack.
She then ran towards a cellar nearby her home where they usually kept wolfs bane. Wolfs bane couldn't kill a wolf but it sure hurts a lot and it weakens their wolf to the point where they can't feel their wolf. So she knew if she injected wolfs bane into her system then she wouldn't feel her wolf and she wouldn't feel the mate bond.
She grabbed a lot of liquid wolfs bane that was put into tubes then she grabbed a syringe and injected her arm. She screamed at the contact and felt her wolf trying to fight her to not inject. But it was too late. Her wolf started fading and fading until she felt absolutely nothing. She smiled in satisfaction for a while, almost like a junkie high on weed. She grabbed a few leaves of wolfs bane so she could plant some for the future. She had everything planned already. She knew she had to get everything done in a hurry because if she gave herself a minute to reflect then she knew she would stay.
Elena took her mother's car and drove away. Not looking back.
