I roughly placed the man’s head on Declaran’s desk. He had been so engrossed in his work that he hadn’t even heard me enter. The sound of King Hector’s head hitting the desk jolted him from his thoughts. His eyes slowly shifted from the head to me, filled with shock.
“So, the snake spoke the truth after all,” he said with a smile.
“You have your head,” I pointed out darkly.
“I do,” he replied. “Yet you seem very unhappy. Where is your woman?”
I narrowed my eyes and took a step back. “Yes... where is she?” I asked.
He looked at me with confusion, not understanding the strange tone in my voice. But I was done playing games.
“You knew... didn’t you?” I demanded.
“I’m sorry, my friend, but I’m not sure what you’re talking about,” he said.
