Aubrey's Point of View:
"Welcome, my son," Mr. Davis exclaimed when he saw a young man enter the house. I always knew he had a son with Camilla, but I didn't know he was that handsome, unlike Evan. If you look at him carefully, you can find some similarities between him and Evans, like his eyes and hair.
"Come in and meet our family," Mr. Davis put a hand on his son's shoulder and led him into the house. I was scared of what would happen when Evan found out about him.
Mr. Davis introduced him to everyone, and he greeted everyone politely. When they came to me, Mr. Davis said, "Lucas, greet your sister-in-law." So his name is Lucas. He smiled when he looked at me, and it felt weird. He extended his hand for a handshake.
"Hello, my beautiful sister-in-law. It's a pity you're already married," he said nonchalantly. I knitted my eyebrows. His lips twisted, and his smile grew bigger.
"I am kidding. I am happy you married my brother." What a weird person he is. I shook his hand and mumbled my name, "Aubrey."
"Your name is also beautiful, just like you," he smiled. I didn't know how to reply. It was the first time a man complimented me. I just smiled a little and tried to take my hand back, but he didn't let go. I raised my eyebrows and looked at him. He was smiling like a crazy person. When I looked at him, he let go of my hand.
"My bad," he mumbled and left. "What a weird person," I mumbled, looking at my hand.
"I thought you didn't know how to seduce a man since my son didn't get interested in you. But, as always, you prove me wrong," Mrs. Jane said when I heard her voice behind me.
"We underestimated her, Mom," Jennifer said.
"What are you saying?" I asked Jennifer. I didn't understand what they meant.
"You are not naive. You don't understand how he was looking at you," Jennifer said, and suddenly, I felt an anger rise within me. How could they think that about me? We just met a minute ago, and they were already blaming me for seducing him.
"I didn't seduce him," I defended myself. Mrs. Jane came near me and grabbed my chin.
"If you do anything that puts shame on my son's name, I'm telling you, I will do things you never imagined," she warned and left. How could they think of me like that? In their eyes, I am so low.
I looked at where everyone was sitting. Grandma was very happy to see Lucas, but anger was visible on Mrs. Jane's face. Lucas seemed excited about everything.
"Aubrey, why are you standing there? Serve tea to everyone," Grandma told me.
I went to them and was about to serve tea to everyone.
"Why are you doing this? I'm the youngest," Lucas stood up to help me.
"No," I politely refused.
"No, I will feel bad. Please let me," he insisted, and in the end, he helped me. I looked at Mrs. Jane, and her anger was even more visible.
At dinner, everyone had their meal and went to their respective rooms. But Evan didn't come yet. I cleaned the table and dishes. I looked up at the clock; it was already 11:00 P.M. Why hadn't Evan come back yet? I sat on the chair and looked at the main gate.
It had become my routine over the past three years to wait until Evan came back home, heat his food, and give it to him. I zoned out when I felt someone sit beside me. I turned and saw it was Lucas.
"What are you doing here so late?" he asked.
"I am waiting for Evan," I replied, pretending as if he didn't exist. I didn't want Mrs. Jane to scold me again because of him.
"Wow, how lucky my big brother is," he commented. When he mentioned "big brother," I looked at him.
"Do you know that when your big brother sees you in this house, he will hate you so much that it might kill you?" I reminded him.
"Of course, I know that. We'll see later. But, we didn't get a chance to know a little about each other," he said, curiosity gleaming in his eyes.
"There's nothing to know about each other," I turned my face away, looking at the main gate, hoping Evan would arrive soon.
"You're cute," he mumbled, barely audible, but I heard it. "Now, stop flattering me," I showed fake anger. "Oh no, I thought that after you fell for my charm, you would be on my team when my big brother scolds me," he exclaimed, overacting. I couldn't help but laugh; he was so overdramatic. He laughed too. I just stared at his face, feeling like I had seen him somewhere before.
"I know, I'm too handsome. If you keep staring at me like that, I'll feel shy," he said, touching his face.
"You... you... have I seen you anywhere?" I tried to recall where I had seen him, but I couldn't. So I asked him, pointing to his face.
"I saw you somewhere, but where?" I asked. His face brightened when I said I had seen him before. He eagerly looked at me, like a puppy waiting to be patted by its master. He took my hand in his. I was surprised.
"Think... think... think..." he kept urging me to remember. I shook my head to indicate that I couldn't recall.
"I don't know where I saw you," I said.
"Maybe in the movies?" he suggested.
"Which movie did you watch?" he nodded, asking me. "Oh," I remembered when he told me he was an actor. I had seen him in the newspaper. I looked at him, about to tell him where I had seen him, but his face turned gloomy.
"I thought you were my fan. Why are you so ice cold? Is there something I'm missing that you're not my fan?" he asked, sounding disappointed. I felt bad. Maybe I should lie, but what would I say when he asked me which movie?
"I'm sorry."
"What's happening here?" I stopped when I heard Evan's voice. I turned and saw Evan standing at the gate. I followed his gaze, and he was looking at where Lucas was holding my hand
