56 Kerina I am strapped to a metal table. I have been left securely on my own. The cotton nightshirt does little to ward off the cold, sterile air. I try to look around the room. It looks similar to a doctor’s room on the rare occasion I have visited one. A woman enters the room and her golden hair curls around her face. She smiles at me. ‘My goodness,’ she laughs. ‘You really do look so normal. It’s quite remarkable.’ She pulls out a syringe and flicks the end. ‘This might hurt, but I only need a few samples. Be a good girl and be brave.’ I try to resist, but it’s no use. The restraints are too tight. It stings as the needle enters my skin. The dark red liquid is drawn up quickly.
