Chapter 58

564 Words

People are gathered near the front entrance, watching the newly arrived visitors with interest. I follow behind Ryen. Some parts of the cave are so low that even I have to duck. I turn back to see how Saxon and Elgee are coping. Both are nearly doubled over. Voices travel down the hallway, and soon our group emerges into a common area. It’s a surprisingly large space filled with people. The first thing I notice are the marks around their necks. People once wore these inked drawings on their skins with pride. Some covered a small part of their body, others entire parts of skin. The tattoos mark their neck like a necklace surrounding the décolletage.
