I am left on my own in the room for a long time after Rudolph’s visit. The bright white walls make my eyes ache. I lean my head against the table and close my eyes. My body remains ever alert. Eventually the guard comes to fetch me. He tosses me a nutrient pack, which I slurp down greedily.
‘Let’s go.’
I follow behind. ‘Where are we going?’
The only response is a snort. I don’t know what to make of this guard. Does he work for Rudolph or is he a danger? I follow without further questions. I know he will not give me any answers. We pass nobody on the way to the room and soon arrive back where we started. He unlocks the door and moves aside. I enter the room and the door slams closed behind me. My eyes quickly adjust to the darkened room.
