24 Kerina I move along beside Constance at a slow pace. She wobbles from side to side as she walks. She was complaining of swollen ankles earlier, so I am sure it is difficult for her to walk, but it won’t stop her. My head flits around the street, taking in the buildings and people. It is my first time leaving the house and going where other members of the community will be. The thought excites and horrifies me all at once. Containers with warbles sit out the front of the buildings trying to grow plants in them. They help add colour to the drab, darkened buildings. Some are well maintained, but most are left to battle the elements alone. We haven’t passed many people yet, but I can see more people ahead, closer to the market. ‘Are you sure it is safe for me to be walking around?’ Bei
