Chapter 11: New Findings(2)

432 Words
As the night wore on, Emily couldn't shake off the feeling that they were being watched. She kept looking around the cabin, expecting to see someone lurking in the shadows. Ryder noticed her unease and tried to reassure her. "We're safe here," he said. "I promise." But Emily couldn't shake off the feeling. She knew that they were in danger, and she didn't know why. As they sat down to eat a meal, Emily's phone rang. She hesitated for a moment before answering it. "Hello?" she said. "Emily, it's me," a voice said. "I need to talk to you." Emily's heart skipped a beat. "Who is this?" she asked. "It's someone who knows what's going on," the voice said. "Meet me outside if you want to know the truth." Emily's eyes locked onto Ryder's. He was watching her, his expression serious. "What do I do?" she mouthed. Ryder shook his head. "Don't go," he mouthed back. But Emily was curious. She wanted to know what was going on, and she wanted to know the truth. "I'll be right there," she said into the phone. Ryder's eyes widened in alarm. "Emily, don't go," he said. But Emily was determined. She got up and walked outside, her heart racing with anticipation. As she walked into the darkness, she saw a figure waiting for her. It was a woman, and she looked familiar. "Who are you?" Emily asked. The woman smiled. "I'm someone who knows what's going on," she said. "And I'm here to tell you the truth." Emily's heart skipped a beat. What truth? As the woman began to speak, Emily's world was turned upside down. She didn't know what to believe, and she didn't know what to do. But she knew one thing. She had to be careful. She had to protect herself, and she had to protect Ryder. As the woman began to speak, Emily's mind was racing. She didn't know what to believe, and she didn't know what to do. "My name is Sarah," the woman said. "I used to work with Ryder's father. I was a part of the team that was investigating the corruption in the police department." Emily's eyes widened in surprise. "What do you mean?" she asked. Sarah hesitated before speaking. "Ryder's father was getting close to the truth," she said. "He was investigating a high-ranking official in the police department, and he was getting close to exposing them." Emily's heart skipped a beat. "What happened?" she asked. Sarah's expression turned grim. "Ryder's father was murdered," she said. "He was killed before he could expose the truth."
