Chapter 4

I had some water and a fresh salad for lunch, and it was quite satisfying. At several points throughout the day, Minda had cast a troubled glance in my direction, but I managed to keep a grin on my face as I sat at the table. I would explain it away by saying that she was weary since she was aware that we had been out. It had nothing to do with the fact that Harry and I shared a residence for at least a month, and possibly longer. Absolutely nothing at all. When we finally arrived home in the afternoon, Minda had already started preparing dinner in her Instant pot. She swore it was true and promised that she'd get us each one once we had our own apartment of our own. I yawned as I made my way up to Emrina's room and tossed my bags on the floor there before sitting down. The entire day had gone by without anyone spotting Harry, then we found his car here. My assumption was that he was napping or taking a break. As soon as I realized that we still had some time until dinner, I went to the bedroom and laid down for a short nap. After Emrina came and joined me, we curled up next to one other and shared some sleep for a time. After being up for so many late hours preparing for exams, it was a welcome relief to finally have some time to just relax. I worked hard in college to obtain my high marks, and I knew that it would benefit me later on with a career. I simply had no interest in doing that at the time, and fortunately, my parents had left me a substantial inheritance to take care of myself. I would choose them above their money any day, but there was nothing I could do about it. When we got up to go to dinner, I looked over at Harry, who was wearing board shorts that hung low on his hips, and took in the scene. I was about to take a breath when I noticed that he was wearing nothing else while he watched something on television. I followed Emrina as she walked by so that we could assist with the dinner preparations, and I stared straight ahead the entire time. After portioning out the chicken and rice, we brought everything to the dining room table and informed the other guests that the meal was now ready to be served. While we were eating, Emrina discussed the unofficial plans that we have for the coming weeks, and I listened to her ramble on and on. I was really excellent at that, and as Minda smiled at me, I took my time eating. I tried to make eye contact with Harry during the lunch, but he always seemed to be lost in his own thoughts and would only shake his head at me. It was a constant joke between Harry and Emrina that she talked too much, and sometimes Harry was correct. She received a call regarding a party at a friend's beach property after the meal had concluded. She informed me of it, and I responded by stating that I'd prefer to not go out tonight. In the event that she was unable to drive home, she may sleep there. When Emrina asked me if I was certain, I gave her a reassuring grin and nodded my head. The most I ever went out was once a month, and she had a large circle of acquaintances in this area. After getting ready and taking a shower, she gave me a hug before she went. Before Emrina left, I gave her a quick peck on the cheek to express how much I cared about her. I dressed for falling asleep later by putting on a pair of leggings and a t-shirt, and then I went outside to the back deck to gaze out over the sea. I took a few steps down to get to the private beach, and as I did so, I stared out at the clear blue sky and the puffy white clouds. I took off my shoes and walked down to the beach where I paused for a second at the sand's edge. San Francisco was no match for the beauty of this location. I kicked off my shoes and made my way cautiously toward the shore, allowing the tranquility of the sea to wash over me as I did so. Tonight, I'd spend some time out here, and then after that, I'd go upstairs and read a book till I fell asleep. That was the most wonderful evening. I became so engrossed in everything that was going on around me that I drifted aimlessly through the waves. The beach always made me think about my mom and dad more because of their shared love of the water. When they passed away, we were aware of our affection for one another. I never had any reason to question that, but I do feel bad that I didn't get back to my mother when she called that afternoon. I was preoccupied with Emrina and intended to do it later; but, I received a call from the police instead. After that, I made the decision to move into her house. During the time that I was recovering from my loss, her mother took care of the sale of the house and assisted me with the inheritance. I'd never forgetten it. I took a deep intake of the salty sea air as I peered ahead at the seemingly endless stretch of sand. When I turned around, I saw Harry standing on the deck staring in my direction. Then I realized what had caused me to turn around. When he stared at me in such moments, I couldn't help but wonder if he was thinking about the night we spent together. Those stunning blue eyes of his could become quite intense, but then he would look away from me. Even though I wanted to sleep with him again, I didn't want him to remember that we had done it before. After a little pause, I turned to take in the breathtaking view of the setting sun as it sank beyond the horizon. I didn't get back to the house until it was dark outside, and when I did, I greeted Minda with a smile. "Are you okay, sweetie?" I responded with a nod as I listened to her soothing words. "I just want to take a moment to relax for a change. It is very enjoyable. I eased myself onto the couch and reclined as she selected a movie to play on the television set. "That is why we have all of this spare time. You have more than enough money to get by till you figure out what you want to do with your life. They made absolutely certain of that. She comforted me by patting my hand, and I smiled as I reflected on everything she had done for me. "I need to figure out what I'm going to do with this degree." I had just started watching the movie when I heard footsteps coming from the direction of the stairs, so I turned my attention away from the screen. Harry walked down the stairs while glancing at his phone while wearing the same shorts. "Are you staying in?" When he looked up in surprise, Minda asked him, and his eyes immediately settled on me. “Yeah. "I'm still exhausted from the drive," he told her as I arched an eyebrow in response to his statement. On a typical evening, he was just as enthusiastic about going out as Emrina was. It's possible that he was depressed about something, which led him to come back here. After obtaining a drink of water, he strolled into the kitchen and sat down at the table to compose a message. Minda and I exchanged looks, and she grinned and shrugged as she responded to my inquiry. Before I had to excuse myself to go upstairs, I had already watched a portion of the movie. I made a comfortable position for myself on the pillows, opened the windows, and pulled up the most recent book on my k****e. Later on, when it was still dark, I came to while Emrina was moving around the room. “Hey. Were you able to get in your car and drive home?" “Yeah. It was calm and relaxed." After giving her response, she quickly went into the bathroom to change. As soon as Emrina came into the room, I tucked myself under the covers and set the k****e down on the table. We had a brief discussion about the party before going to sleep. I was the first one to wake up in the morning, and after using the restroom, I put on a sloppy sweatshirt and went downstairs to start the coffee pot. I reasoned that Brad must be at work because the house was unusually silent. I used their machine that makes one cup at a time, and as I was walking out the door to drink it, I glanced over and noticed Harry dozing off on one of the lounge chairs. I seriously contemplated remaining indoors, but the weather was just too beautiful to pass up.
