Chapter 7

I tried to avoid looking at Shauna's face as much as possible. After retrieving two bottles of water from the refrigerator, I went to my room in the hopes of getting a good night's rest, but I couldn't shake the feeling that there were three sets of eyes on me the whole time. Since I had checked my appearance in the mirror just before I left the apartment, I was aware that it wasn't hard to figure out where I'd been. I managed to get my shirt off and then stared at the cuts and scrapes on my back while muttering an expletive under my breath. I wouldn't tell anyone about that for a few days. Shauna's POV As Harry walked past, Emrina remarked, "It looks like someone had a fantastic night." As he went to get some water from the refrigerator, Minda frowned in concern because he appeared to still be intoxicated to some degree. Because I've known him for a considerable amount of time, I was able to deduce that he probably had a one-night stand the night before. There was definitely f*****g, the kind that only Harry was capable of doing, and most of the time he didn't do seconds. I pretended to be interested in the fresh strawberries on my dish while the other women whispered amongst themselves about him. I then looked down at my plate. If I had been the one to spend the previous night in his bed, I wouldn't be experiencing this level of discomfort right now. There wouldn't be any discomfort in that area, or at least not as much as there was before. I'd put as much of my own effort into making it go away as I could, but I still want him. Another woman ultimately won Harry over. I ate as much of my breakfast as I could before taking the dish to the sink so that Emrina wouldn't see how much food was still on it. Before I told them I was going for a walk on the beach, I scraped the leftovers into the trash, washed the dish, and placed it on the drying rack. I was already dressed in leggings and a Henley when I decided to head down the stairs, so I slipped my feet into my sandals before I did so. As I squealed today, the wind was really strong, and it blew my unruly curls around my head in a circular motion. I crouched down and made my way to the water, where I found the environment to be more peaceful. I took off my shoes and waded into the churning waves, staring at the ground while I reflected on the circumstances of my predicament. Harry was my best friend's brother, but I often felt as though he was a member of my own family. We had spent our formative years together, and throughout the years, he was a tremendous source of support for me. When my mother passed away, he was the one who sat on the beach with me and listened to me talk about her and my other family members. Emrina felt terrible and did everything she could to help, and Minda sat down with me on several occasions to talk, but Harry was the one who broke my heart. When I first started to comprehend hormones, that's when I realized I had a crush on him. But didn't every girl have a crush on someone? They rarely led to anything fruitful and instead served as a lesson or a tale to pass on to one's children in later years. The majority of women did not f**k their crushes when they were at their lowest point and now seek the attention of that person. When I had recently turned seventeen, my mother had given me some advice during lunch. I kept thinking about those words and how they made me feel. She took a sip of her iced tea before turning her attention to me when we were at our go-to spot for fish and chips. "Harry seems to improve in looks every time we see him, doesn't he?" As I reddened my cheeks, she flashed me a grin and shifted in her seat. As she chuckled, I said, "Everyone believes that," but she didn't hear it. "He has a lot of s*x with different women, Mom." At the time, I was a virgin, and within a month, I would have my first lover, my first true kiss, and my first experience with s*x. "There are certain men who experience that. Guys that look like him have an easier time finding a girlfriend since women are easily swayed when it comes to eyes like those. They reach adulthood and make choices about what they want in due time, and he will one day make a nice husband. She informed me as I looked into eyes that were exactly the same as mine. Years ago, I discussed the possibility of the two of you becoming something with his mother. He was always very attentive to you and kept an eye on you whenever you were interacting with other children. The same thing happened to Emrina, as well. I objected, "I'm like his sister," as she laughed and shook her head, but she only grinned. “No. You're different." After we had finished our dinner, we went on a lengthy walk and continued our conversation about the sea and how much we adore it. In the seven months that followed, not only did she never bring Harry up again, but she also passed away. I really hoped that she was here so that we could discuss all that has happened recently and figure out how to handle it together. Because I couldn't communicate with Emrina or Minda, I experienced a sense of isolation. I shivered as I thought about his lips being on mine and how passionately he had kissed me. When it came to Harry, things only got better as time went on. My entire being pleaded with me to submit to him once more and release the pressure that had been mounting ever since the first time we had done this. My throbbing p***y and aching n*****s were arguing with my heart, which was trying to convince me that doing so would only make matters worse. The look in his eyes suggested that he recalled our night together well enough to want more, which was the last thing I ever wanted him to remember from our time together. It was a poor decision to sleep together, and it could have torn up the one remaining family I had. Regardless of how badly I wanted it, I had to think rationally about this situation. It was little more than s****l activity, which I could acquire anyplace. When I looked up, I noticed that both the ocean and the beach seemed to go on forever. I could run away from the life in which I had recently lost both of my parents and was developing feelings for the brother of my best friend. I could walk on it forever. It reminded me of a crummy tune from a Disney movie or show. In actuality, I had to go in the other direction and confront the future. Since my parents have made the decision to look after me, it should turn out to be a good one. They would never provide the kind of care that I need or desired from them, but I knew that they would never leave my side. I inhaled a long, labored breath and then turned my face toward the heavens. I think I'm capable of achieving this. My mother instilled in me a fierce work ethic, and my father was there to cheer me on at every turn. I think I'm capable of achieving this. I retraced my steps and went into the house. I was aware that Emrina was going to another party tonight, but I decided against going myself because I had plans to spend the evening at home. I needed to find a strategy to both think and relax that was effective for me. I was taking one step at a time while staring at the sand beneath my feet. I was startled when I felt something move in front of me, and as I turned around, I saw Harry staring at me with his wet hair blowing in the breeze. As he stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jeans, our eyes met, and he gave off a scent that reminded me of the soap he used. "Why are you even in this place?" When I realized how far away we were from the house, I posed the question. When I needed to relieve my tension, I went for long walks, just like I always did. "I saw you walk out the door. I just got done taking a shower and I really need to get some sleep, but I really wanted to talk to you. He said it to me as I grimaced in response. "I heard that you were out with another person, Harry. You can't possibly be considering what to say to me." I remarked as he shook his head in response. "Ever since I recalled the two of us, it has occupied every waking moment of my mind. The mere presence of you at that gathering pushed things into high gear. As he continued to speak, his pitch increased. "Yes, I was with someone last night, but for some reason, you kept running through my thoughts. I was f*****g you, Shauna. I even referred to you by name! As I stared at him in disbelief, storm clouds formed in his eyes.
