Whitney’s POV
I woke up the moment the first ray of sunlight hit my room. After a quick shower, I stayed in bed scrolling through my social media when a knock sounded on my door.
“Who’s there?” I asked.
“My princess, it’s Daniel.”
“Okay, Daniel. What’s up?”
“The Alpha wants to see you in the meeting hall.”
“What now?” I muttered to myself.
“Alright. Tell him I’ll be there shortly.”
“Yes, Princess,” he replied before leaving.
“Please don’t tell me this is about blind dates again,” Roxy groaned in my head. “I’m tired of staring at wrinkled elders.”
“We’re about to find out,” I mind-linked back.
I returned from the council meeting furious—beyond annoyed.
“What the hell was that?” I snapped.
“Calm down,” Roxy urged.
“I am not calming down!” I growled back. “Who do they think they are, deciding my future? They’re my father’s elders, not mine!”
“I know,” she replied softly.
I slammed my door shut, yanked open my closet, and began throwing clothes onto my bed.
“What are you doing?” Roxy asked, alarmed.
“What does it look like?” I snapped. “I’m leaving.”
“It hasn’t come to that yet.”
“Shut up!” I screamed, and she angrily cut the link.
I kept packing, my hands shaking with rage.
Soon, desperate knocking echoed through the room.
“Whitney, open the door,” my father pleaded. “We can talk.”
I ignored him and kept stuffing clothes into my bags. Moments later, the door burst open—and I stood there with fully packed luggage.
My father froze when he saw me. He reached for my hand the way he used to when I was a child, but I yanked it away.
“I can’t believe you did this,” I yelled. “We had an agreement! The moment the elders spoke, you went back on your word. And of all Alphas—it had to be Dominic. Dominic!”
My voice echoed down the hall, drawing the maids out of their rooms. They watched in silence as I broke down. Tessa rushed in and pulled me away while my father stood there, speechless.
She led me to the garden, where we sat beneath a tree. The moment we stopped walking, I broke down completely, crying into her shoulder and soaking her clothes.
“They want to marry me off to Dominic of SilverCrest,” I sobbed. “Because I refused to choose.”
She listened quietly before asking, “What did your father say?”
“He agreed with them,” I whispered. “He approved it.”
Her eyes widened. “But… what about the deal?”
“He promised me two years,” I cried. “Two years to find my mate—and he broke it.”
She pulled me into her arms, gently patting my head.
“I know you’re hurt, but running away won’t fix this.”
“Yes, it will,” I said, standing up and wiping my tears. “This is the only way.”
She sighed and stood too. “Alright. Then tell me—where are you going?”
“I’m accepting the university scholarship,” I said firmly.
Her face fell. “Whitney, your father will be devastated. You’re leaving the pack… for humans.”
I looked at her. “You’re my best friend. My sister. I need you to support me—even if you don’t agree.”
I reached into my handbag, pulled out a neatly folded brown envelope, and placed it in her hands.
“Give this to my father,” I said softly. “It has everything I couldn’t say out loud.”
Before she could stop me, I turned and walked away.
I made my way to the pack gates and pushed them open, stepping into the world I had always dreamed of seeing—but stayed away from because of my father.
If he wasn’t going to consider my feelings anymore, then I wouldn’t consider his.
