Jill said, “So you’ve seen it.” They’d texted while Jason and Colby had been in the car. “What do you want to do?” Older-sister heartache laced every word. “We shouldn’t need to do much, I’d think?” Colby put his head on one side, and took Jason’s hand. He was wearing his own pants, but Jason’s red plaid shirt under that black leather jacket. Jason had noticed a faint wistfulness in that direction when they’d been getting dressed, maybe Colby looking for tangible comfort; he’d grabbed it and said, “Warmer than any of yours, right?” and plopped flannel on Colby’s shoulders. The shirt was too big, of course, but not impossibly so; they were relatively close in height, though Jason was much broader.
