Jinny’s point of view
I thought about everything after the talk that I previously had with Papa. Why would he –that i***t American- do such a thing; I wondered.
There was a knock on the door. Marion was off that day and anybody entered my room as they wished.
A young man entered the room with some beautiful roses gathered to gather in an awesome way.
‘Ma’am, this is for Miss O’Neil. But I see she isn’t here. Can you pass it to her later?’
‘Sure.’ And there was a mutter under my breath.
He handed me the flowers, ‘Please sign here.’
Flowers for Marion?
My curiosity was killing me; so I opened the paper which had been among the flowers:
Sorry you had to see so much violence the other day,
Great wishes, John Stephen Mc. Loreign
To Marion Bella O’Neil
I was now burning. Maybe this was his aim and he knew she wasn’t at the office that day, but then or there again he might not have done so because of that.
I let out a breath. He mustn’t get on my nerves so easily and I knew I had to teach him a lesson.
First he entered my office out of appointment, second he offended me in my own place, third he got my secretary’s number, then he told my father I was spying on him, and at last sent an i***t bunch of flowers.
No, you are wrong; I am no envious of her. But I am so mad at him. And the items above were enough for me to go and kill him dead to his words.

That night after the flowers, I had a horrible dream. In the dream I woke up and found myself in a lonely bed. The shits were around me and I was all alone and… naked. The sheets smelled like someone I knew but the smells couldn’t be remembered after the dream itself; but it is still in my lungs and what scares me more is that it’s his perfume; the one he was wearing when he threatened me and the one the card in the flowers smelled like. The in the dream I look for him; I know it. I head out of the room; sheets around me, then I find him sitting on a couch among the crowd and a girl is kissing her neck. My heart breaks for an I-don’t-know reason and I sit on the cold carpets. And then I am awake.
Actually it reminds me of the-one-who-gave-me-born and once again there are the memories…
It was a late midday and Samantha was off the week it followed. Brian was at school and I still had two years to go. Mom and Dad were in their room and according to Brian they were doing mature things I wouldn’t know. So I headed to the couch in the living room and turned the TV on no volume. I was still that short that if I sat on the couch, you wouldn’t see me from the behind; and so I sat there actually doing nothing.
‘What is it, ha?’
No, there was a fight again. I took a glance from the couch to see their room which was behind it. A wrapped gift flew out of the room; and following was my mother. I sat in my place again.
‘Sh… calm… It is going to be okay. It will end once.’ I whispered to myself and squeezed my teddy bear.
‘Don’t you have a daughter here? Care for us; or I will cut your throat! Analie is done to you. Now you are only devoted to me. Understand? You have a life here to live and you just push it away and buy her presents?’ Anger flared and I knew he was right. Mom didn’t care for me; neither for us, she always shouted at me and said ‘you ruined my life!’ I didn’t even know what she meant, but there she was saying it over and over and scolding me, punishing me for not being something or for putting my foot in their lives.
‘She is my only daughter. Jinny is no one to me!’
A tear dropped from my round face and damped the teddy’s cheeks.
How can you say that? You are my mother…
My answer didn’t get to her but dad did respond. Took her luggage out of a closet, filled it with some cloths and then Ta Da.
Fuck this life… nobody wanted me… nobody does now…
Even though I was so young I could understand that all of this was her fault and dad was entitled to do whatever he tasted for. And those days I mostly hated Analie as I saw her responsible for everything taking place. Maybe special attentions to Analie made Papa that mad; but I still have no particular notion to that. Analie didn’t live with us but was a part of the family and that was what made me so jealous. No attention to me from Mom, only there was the girl, Analie…
After six I lived with Papa. He himself taught me business and things alike. As I was so interested in business, I majored in economy at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and soon went ahead working for my own dad.
Papa always backed me, although I had a brother –Brian. I was the loveliest. I sometimes even make a journey to dad’s company which was located in England and from the first time on I got interested in British English and took courses. Soon I was just what I was supposed to be; the Lady of the Unthems’ lands.
