The day after the fire, Lefty drove the few miles from Park City into Keetley with Pal nestled on the seat next to him. Although his mind had been in turmoil since his discovery of the letter Simmy had hidden, he was jolted back into the present as he turned onto the main road into Keetley. He thought he was prepared for what he would find, but Lefty was shocked to see how badly the fire had devastated the clinic. There was nothing left other than a blackened structure, so a new clinic would have to be completely rebuilt if TJ wanted to replace it.
