Chapter 10
The hunt had gone well. Although Robert had not carried a weapon, he was greeted as a hero just as other members of the hunting party were upon their return to the village. They carried with them six deer and a dozen rabbits, turkeys and quail. He could not wait for the day when he had his own bow and could fully contribute to the hunt.
As it was, he had contributed by flushing out small game and blocking the retreat of fleeing deer. He had also earned the respect of the braves when he revealed to them that he had once owned and could shoot a gun. These things enhanced his status within the tribe, and he could tell by the way he nodded and smiled Red Horse’s pride in him as well.
