Chapter 12
Red Horse returned to the wigwam soon after Robert had hidden the stone in his jacket pocket. Robert was kneeling by the fire pit, gathering old coals and debris. He rose when the brave entered the room. Red Horse took Robert in his arms and kissed him.
When the kiss was ended, Robert asked, “What of the council meeting?”
Red Horse sighed. He sat and indicated that Robert should do the same. When they were settled, Red Horse continued.
“Blue Jacket is concerned that the settlers are not responding to the long knives’ order to leave our lands. Only a few have done so. Many have asked to be allowed to stay. Many more are remaining without permission.”
