Lira Ashera POV
What did he say?! Embarrassed? Just because I was sitting in front of him on the same horse?!
I almost lost it.
Oh come on... His mouth is seriously poisonous. But I have to endure it. This is my first chance and so far, everything is going smoothly. I can’t ruin it now.
The sun was already bright and high by the time we entered the village. Warm light spilled over the rooftops and dusty ground. People filled the streets everywhere. Kids were laughing as they chased each other, mothers were hanging clothes and chatting with neighbors, and some were selling vegetables or bargaining loudly over prices.
Every single one of them stared at us with confusion and curiosity. Especially because I was riding on the same horse as the Alpha himself. Thankfully, this strange Alpha had covered my face with a veil. So all they could do was guess and gossip.
“Is Alpha Kael engaged to that woman?”
“She must be incredibly beautiful.”
Ah, they’re praising me already. My ego is definitely getting bigger from all this attention. Alright. Let’s play along, then.
Just to add fuel to their rumors, I gently kissed Alpha Kael’s cheek, acting like the most romantic lover ever, reinforcing the speculation on purpose.
“Hey, but she’s wearing handcuffs.”
Damn it. I totally forgot about the cuffs dangling on my wrists.
I frowned instantly.
“You want to keep acting, huh?” he suddenly asked.
I didn’t answer him. I didn’t even know what he planned to do next. But to my surprise, Alpha Kael actually unlocked the cuffs himself.
Finally, my arms felt less heavy.
I started really playing my role here. As Alpha Kael’s woman, i mean his supposed mate… If only he hadn’t rejected me.
Ugh! Why am I even thinking about that?!
I’m supposed to be happy he rejected me, not competing in misery like this.
Around nine in the morning, we reached the palace gates.
The palace was enormous and majestic, all golden stone and tall towers. Grand and extravagant… the perfect target to burn down someday.
Just imagining the Northern Bloodrage territory in flames made me all giddy inside. I almost shivered in excitement.
“You must be enjoying life as the mighty leader,” I said softly.
Alpha Kael smirked, pulled my veil slightly aside, and kissed me hotly
right in front of the open palace gates.
That was our five kiss in public. While the guards guiding our horse stay silent.
Lady Seraphine POV
I burst out of my chamber, leaving my hidden daughter Violet behind, the moment the guards announced my son had returned.
As I stepped onto the courtyard, I froze.
There he was my son, Alpha Kael on horseback, kissing a veiled woman with striking, bright eyes even behind the thin fabric. They were practically glued to each other like shameless lovers.
What in the world is this?!
Where did my son find this girl
this infuriatingly… beautiful girl?
I marched toward them with pure irritation boiling in my chest. “Who is she?!”
My son only gave me a lazy side glance before dismounting and bowing to me like everything was normal. “Our new prisoner,” he said, as if that explained everything.
A prisoner? Treated this intimately? What nonsense. And I hadn’t seen a single thing about this woman in my magic orb earlier because I was too busy talking with my precious daughter.
My eyes then caught sight of two carriages behind them. One of the head soldiers stepped down to greet me. “Greetings to you my Lady,” he said.
I kept my frown deep and severe. “You came from the border, did you not?”
“Indeed, my Lady. There was a fire at the border, and Alpha Kael decided to evacuate us back to the palace.”
“For what purpose?” I snapped.
“I beg your pardon, my Lady, but that was Alpha Kael’s direct command.”
None of this made any sense.
“Who is she?!” I demanded again, pointing straight at the veiled girl.
No one answered. That silence burned my patience to ashes. “Take her down from that horse!”
Alpha Kael moved to help her, but I stopped him and ordered the soldiers instead.
The moment her feet touched the ground, I ripped off her veil—
I'm shock, because she was… gorgeous. Unnaturally so. Those eyes. Those luminous blue eyes, that sharp nose, those crimson cherry lips. Even I have never seen anyone that pretty.
Is she using magic?!
“You must be using magic, you witch!” I shouted, while slapping her, because I was offended by her appearance.
Lira Ashera POV
For a second, I was speechless. Wait... is she actually admiring how I look right now?
I let out a tiny smile, realizing she was furious over something as petty as my face.
“I apologize, Lady Seraphine. I had no intention of offending you,” I said gently, calmly.
“A prisoner has no right to speak to me!” she snapped. Her tone was sharp as a blade.
What the—
Ekhm!
I mean, You asked me a question and I answered it, and now you’re mad at me for speaking?
Her logic made no sense.
“Take her to the dungeon!” Lady Seraphine roared.
A cold wave crept up my spine. The word “dungeon” was enough to make my stomach twist imagining the filth and chains waiting there. I quickly looked at Alpha Kael, giving him a playful who pleading glance.
Kael POV
Is she seriously trying to tease me again? I could tell she was planning to flirt with the guards the same way she always does
using her charm to play games.
Just thinking about it made me irritated.
But I had to keep acting in front of my mother. So I said, with a flat voice, “Mother, just take her there.”
As expected, Ashera’s expression shifted she was shocked, and clearly not expecting me to throw her under like that.
They dragged her toward the dungeon, the one that holds the most dangerous prisoners in our land.
Lira Ashera POV
Damn it!
What was he thinking, agreeing to lock me up in a place like this?
The dungeon was huge, damp, built of thick stone walls with metal bars and rusty iron doors. Every cell had a number. Mine was number 123.
The air was thick with the foul smell of urine and sweat from other criminals. It made my stomach churn instantly. I bit my lip, trying not to gag.
Does he even have a heart? Or is this his way of punishing me again? Because I underestimated his kissing skills?
Luckily, Maeva was here with me. She sat in the corner of the cell, glaring at me with her arms crossed, speaking through our telepathic bond.
“We already have a bad reputation in this kingdom, and now you had to go and pick a fight with Lady Seraphine. You should really learn when to shut your mouth!”
“Excuse me? I’m not going to babysit my own mouth for them,” I muttered back, irritated.
Suddenly, from the next cell, number 123 I heard a rough, annoyed groan.
“Argh!”
I turned my head, distracted.
“What are YOU looking at?!” I shouted.
He sat up slowly from the corner of his cell, glaring at me with cold, sharp eyes. He must’ve been sleeping before.
“Who are you? And how dare you yell like that in my territory,” he growled.
His territory? Hah!
I crossed my arms. “Your territory? How can you even call it that?”
He pointed at everyone in the entire dungeon. “Everyone here is scared of me.”
I raised my chin and scoffed, my voice full of boldness. “Well, except me.”
