Up to you

He came here just to do something this humiliating, like a kiss? I mean, do you believe it? The same man who burned my entire family alive, who locked me away in some remote forest house for years without any contact with the outside world except for my own sister... then rejected me in front of everyone, at the very ceremony that was supposed to seal our fates. And now? Now he’s kissing me like he owns my soul. In the cold night, his hug was very warm and made me comfortable. God, I think I’m losing my mind. How would I even explain this to my family, if they were still alive? How could I ever look them in the eyes and say, “Yes, the man who destroyed everything we had just shoved me against a wall and kissed me like I belonged to him”? I tried to pull away, but the Alpha’s grip was firm, impossible to break. His lips left mine, only to trail lower, brushing against my jaw, my neck, and the hollow just beneath my ear. Ahh. Oh no. No, no, no. Did I just moan? Shame burned my cheeks, and I couldn’t even look him in the eye. What if he— “You really shouldn’t be doing this,” I whispered, and when glancing at alpha Kael, instead of stopping, he smiled. Bastard. What else does he want from me? We’ve never even spoken face-to-face before this. Yet he’s the reason for every single piece of my suffering. Still holding my hand, he tugged me toward the doorway. No matter how many times I tried to pull free, he didn’t budge. “You’re not hiding any fire-starters, are you?” he asked casually. I let out a bitter laugh, tilting my head. “Oh, I keep all the tools you fear, Your Highness. If you’re brave enough to test me, I’ll gladly put them to use.” Let’s see how fast you burn. He chuckled. “You’re actually kind of fun.” Kind of fun?! Are you kidding me? How the hell is he not even flinching at the mention of fire? He turned to me again, gently pushing a few strands of my hair behind my ear with his free hand. Then he kissed me. Again. “Oh come on! Do you two not know how to control yourselves?!” That was Maeva, speaking into my mind through telepathy. Of course she saw that. Embarrassment turned into instinct. My body shifted to a werewolf. In a blink, I wasn’t fully human anymore. My bones cracked subtly, skin stretching. Thin fur started spreading over my arms. My fingers elongated slightly, forming sharpened claws. I swiped at him, ready to escape. But he was faster. He caught my wrist mid-swing, spun me around, and pinned me to the wooden wall. His chest pressed to mine, and his breath was hot against my cheek. Absolutely humiliating. And yet... something about it made my knees go weak. Auuuuu. A long, low howl escaped his throat. And strangely, it awakened something inside me. My own voice joined his involuntarily. “You’ve got a sexy howl,” he murmured, when his lips were close to my ear. “But it’s not perfect.” “Why would you care?” I snapped, turning my face away from him. “I don’t like being ignored,” he growled. “And I don’t like having the ruin of my life breathing down my neck,” I spat back. His grip tightened. His hands wandered again, and somehow, instead of pushing him away, my body responded with warmth. Heat pooled under my skin, and Under the silver glow of the moon, My voice trembled as I spoke the same word, "It’s unethical of you to kiss me now, after you’ve already rejected me." He didn’t respond and continued his activity on the surface of my skin. Then— the sound of boots got faster towards us. The Gamma soldiers interrupted whatever Alpha Kael might’ve done next. For once, I felt a flicker of relief at their intrusion. But even so, my fingers twitched in anxiety. The Gammas looked terrified. “Forgive us, Your Majesty!” one shouted. “But this woman is dangerous! She’s provoking you so that you can reduce her sentence!” What? “Agh!” I cried out as electricity surged through my arm. Those bastards activated the stun cuffs. It felt like every nerve in your body had been yanked out. I collapsed to my knees. Thud! A sickening crack was followed by groans of pain. Within seconds, five Gamma soldiers were on the ground, beaten down by fists and claws. “Do you always treat her like this?!” Wait— Was he… defending me? No way. He wasn’t doing this for me. He was pissed because his lust got interrupted. That had to be it. “We’re sorry, Alpha!” another stammered. “We thought that filthy woman was trying to seduce you to escape her punishment!” Slash! Another swipe. More blood. The soldier screamed. “I came here to sleep with her! Isn’t that obvious enough?!” What the hell? I slowly shifted my feet, inch by inch, while Alpha Kael was still caught up dealing with his chosen Gamma warriors. This was a rare chance. One I couldn’t afford to waste. I had already put a good three meters between us before I broke into a full sprint in my wolf form, heading toward the narrow path skirting the lake. Freedom. Finally, I was free! It felt ridiculously easy. Like flipping a hand over. But of course, They noticed. Alpha Kael was already coming after me, and the moment I heard his rapid footsteps growing closer, panic swallowed me whole. My paws fumbled, and I slipped straight into the cold lake. The cold hit me. Wait… I don’t know how to swim! Not in this form! “Auuuu—!” I tried to scream to yell for help, but as a wolf, my voice was nothing but a strangled howl. I thrashed in the water. But every movement only pulled me deeper. My claws scratched the surface, and my head bobbed under, then up again. I couldn't breathe. The lake was darker and colder than I imagined. When I thought I’d go under, strong arms pulled me up and out. The cold was replaced by warmth. “You’re really bad at this whole ‘running away’ thing,” he said dryly, pulling off his shirt and using it to wipe the mud from my face and fur. Yeah yeah, almighty Alpha, whatever you do. I glared at him, clearly annoyed, but unable to say anything in wolf form. My ears were pinned back as I looked away, pouting hard. Alpha Kael’s POV She’s adorable. Especially when she panics. I mean, how did she even manage to slip like that? The path around the lake is a solid seven centimeters wide; that’s plenty. Back in training, we were told to skip the path altogether. We swam across this damn lake ten times a day without rest. But we survived. And now here she is, her paws flailing, looking like a boiled wolf in panic mode. Honestly, I could barely hold back my laughter watching her sink in slow motion, all four legs kicking like she was riding an invisible bicycle underwater. The lake water’s cold as hell this time of year. Still, she tried. Gotta give her that. When I heard her howl, I pulled her out without hesitation. Her tail was twitching wildly as I gently rubbed her head with my shirt, trying to get some of the mud off. She probably liked that. I could almost imagine her cute little smile underneath all that soaked fur. Wait, what? Why am I… complimenting her? “You’re really bad at this whole ‘running away’ thing,” I told her, keeping my tone sharp. No way I was letting her hear anything nice from me. Sure enough, her expression soured instantly. Figures. I carried her back to the isolation house; I walked without a shirt, her soaked body cradled in my arms. One of the Gamma soldiers—the same one I just kicked into the dirt minutes ago—stared at us and was clearly confused. Not that I cared. From what I saw earlier, they hadn’t treated her well. Wait… I forgot this girl's name. "What’s your name?” I finally asked. I honestly forgot. Not that she answered me. She probably still had her fur in a twist over what I said earlier. But there’s one thing I knew for certain. I wouldn’t let anyone else lay a finger on her. If anyone’s going to deal with her, it’s me. And maybe… they need to protect her from me, not the other way around.
