Bad idea

Alpha Kael POV I finally finished checking the data, a task that had taken me several hours. The results made my brow furrow in confusion. The report was completely normal and neatly organized, with flawless records of all incoming and outgoing food and supplies. "I still don't know who the mastermind is. But they are definitely someone powerful and smart in our pack." I knew that data could be manipulated, but a physical inspection would expose the truth. I had to do it. So, I called for Lucien. He was the Beta of this pack, and his gaze was full of annoyance as he entered the room. "You beat me up because your girl was teasing me, but now you're bringing my girl into this with your girl?" he grumbled, his body language tense. My eyebrow shot up. "What do you mean? Your girl?" I laughed heartily, a genuine smile spreading across my face as I saw that he was finally interested in someone. He shook his head frantically, a look of panic on his face. "Not at all, but she's been through so much hardship," he insisted, his voice heard a hint of worry. I stood up and clapped him on the shoulder. "I know who you are. You're a womanizer who forgets their names the next day. But now I'm hearing you protest because of her? This is a rare occasion!" I clapped my hands, amused by his behavior. "Have you finally decided to be loyal?" I whispered in his ear, teasing him. Lucien POV Am I in love with someone? No, this is something different. "I just feel sorry for her," I replied nonchalantly. But Kael saw right through me, and he didn't stop laughing. "You sound like a nervous teenager talking about his first love." "I don't care what you say," I said firmly, my expression serious. "But Maeva is just an adopted child of the Luroux family; she shouldn't be a prisoner that you lock up for life." We had a brief conversation before, and he expressed everything clearly here. He was so sweetno, I mean, he was so miserable. Kael just nodded meaningfully, continuing to poke at my feelings. "Come on, you can be with anyone you want," he said with a chuckle. That was my line for years, and now he was throwing it back at me. "You're being way too much!" I scoffed. "I'm not being too much. I'm just finding it really strange to see Lucien so obviously worried about someone." "Huh, what's the difference between me and you?" I shot back, annoyed. He had been following Ashera for the past seven years, making sure she lived a good life, even while in prison. "We're friends," he said with a relaxed shrug. "You're complicating everything," I snapped. "You're locking up the wrong people. Only Ashera deserves to be punished, not Maeva!" I explained, then turned and stormed away from him. Alpha Kael POV For some reason, I was a little annoyed by his last words before he left. I wasn't actually sure if Maeva was a prisoner or not. As I recalled, they were two werewolves who were documented members of the southern district prison. They had escaped with new identities for four months before they were captured. Even though they hadn't committed a crime, the people were still holding a grudge because of the Luroux family's crimes. But I hadn't made their lives difficult. I had been very compassionate toward them. And even if Maeva was released because she was innocent, Ashera would be lonely. I clenched my fist. I really hated that idea.
