Chapter 10 - In the Dark

1444 Words
It was raining heavily and the thunders were ruling the night. I stayed in my room while preparing the report that I will need tomorrow morning. For some reason, I am wondering if Sean will still go home given this situation. It might be dangerous for him to be on the road. The clock says it's already 12:43 AM. The lights outside the mansion are already dim, and the guards are patrolling nonstop around to make sure that everything is safe. I draw the curtains, so I can watch the rain. The dim light from the veranda gave it a vintage vibe. "Aaaaaahhhh!" I almost tripped myself when I stood after it went all dark in my room. My heart raced when I looked outside, and I couldn't see any light too. The lightning scared me more. This is the first time I experienced a blackout. My knees were shaking when I walked to the direction of my bed where my phone is. Before I can grab it, several knocks coming from the door made my whole body shivered. "Ma'am! Are you alright?!" The voice of a lady was in panic. I hurriedly get my phone to turn on its flashlight, but the battery is drained. "What the hell?!" I screamed in frustration. I used the light from the laptop to see the way to the door. There are two housemaids standing outside and holding two lamps. I still can't calm. "What happened?" My voice was shaking. "The power source was hit by a lightning, and the sceurity is still working on the power generator. While they are fixing it, please stay safe in this room and make sure that everything is locked. We are already contacting Sir Sean to inform him about this situation." She handed me a lamp. How can I stay alone in such a dark place? They were about to go when I speak again.' "S-Sean... did he say if he's still going home?" "Sir Sean just called asking about you. He's on his way back to Manila." One of them answered. I only nodded. The thought that he will be around soon made me feel safe. I walked back to my room, put the lamp atop the table and look for my powerbank. I closed the curtains before I went back to my laptop. Aside from the sound of rain outside, I couldn't hear anything. Did I even lock my door? It might take 3 hours or more for Sean to get here. I just want to make sure that he will be safe, so I texted him to check in the nearest hotel. The rain looks like it will not stop anytime soon. Worse, the roads might already be blocked due to flood. 'Spend the night in the hotel near you. It's safer.' I don't understand why these hands were shaking when I sent that simple message. In no time, I saw 'Stepbrother' in the caller ID. That simple thing made my heart skipped a beat. It's the name he gave to himself when he saved his number. "I heard there's no power in the house. Are you in the room?" His calm voice made me took a deep sigh. Somehow, the nervous left my shoulder that time. "Yes. Did you read my message?" "Thanks for being concerned for me, but I won't be able to sleep if I don't see you tonight. I'll be there in 45 minutes." "I thought you just left Batangas." "So you asked the maids about me. I left 2 hours ago, and I am now in Manila. Why are you still awake?" I bite my lower lip when I felt excited all of a sudden. "Don't mistaken it. I'm still up because I'm doing a report for tomorrow's conference. Don't think I'm waiting for you." He chuckled. "I only asked. Don't be so defensive." I rolled my eyes. The conversation goes on for another 40 minutes. He discussed about the topics in the conference he attended. He got some proposals which are still subjected for review. From business, our conversation went to luxurious night life. That's when I started getting annoyed. He's not denying that he got a lot of women. He had to stop by in a drug store to buy his maintenance medicine that his secretary forgot to pack with his things. When I ended the call, I felt relieved. It's still dark, but it felt okay. I'm not scared anymore because it felt like Sean was here the whole time. While working on the presentation, I kept glancing to my phone to check if there's any message from Sean. I'm disappointed when there's no single notification from him. The knocks on the door distracted me. What is it this time? "Who's there?" I asked. I waited, but no one answered. The person from the outside knocked thrice. "Who is it?" I asked again. My voice sounded impatient this time. Fear arose when it's still completely silent in the other side of the door. I stayed alert while waiting for that someone to say something or knock again, but the door knob got unlock and someone pushed it. I tried to resist it, but the person already got in my room. "What the hell?!" I shouted when I saw Sean. He laughed when he looked at me. "Hi! You look so scared just now. But still beautiful." His hoarse voice made me calm. Even I want to hurt him now for that annoying joke, I chose to remain silent. He closed the door, and scanned the room as if he can see the whole place. The lamp was not enough to light the whole room. He walked towards the laptop and looked for a while on the screen. Then he sat on the small swivel chair and turned around to face me. "It wasn't always like this in this house. Sorry if you got scared or if it causes disturbance in your work. I already instructed the security to ask for help of professional technical men." He explained. I don't know why it feels right to just stare at him at this moment. "No it's fine." I answered. "Weren't you scared?" "Not at all. Go back to your room." I can't believe he's going to do as I say. He stood right away and walked to my direction. I thought he was just going to pass by and leave, but he stopped in front of me. "I pressured the driver to get here as early as possible, but you're just going to send me to my room?" His voice was so soft. "What else are you going to do in my room? And perhaps, you had a long day. You should rest now." He shook his head while a playful smile is on his lips. "I can't sleep in dark. I totally can't function in dark. So allow me to stay here just until they fix the damn generator." And even he tried to hide the annoyance, I know he's angry for what happened. "What? Then ask for lamps and put it to every corner of your room. There are emergency lights outside; you can stay in the sitting room while..." He started walking close to me, so I stepped back until I am cornered between him and the door. His eyes looked dangerous down to me. I felt burning when it's ice cold in this room. I had to look down to avoid his eyes, but I felt more flustered when I saw his loose tie. "Can we stop pretending that we don't feel anything for each other?" His voice is dead serious. "I don't know what you're talking about. Move away." "No." He lifted my chin. The touching of our skins sent electricity to my system. When I looked into his dark eyes again, I felt the rush in my heart. His naturally red lips are smirking again. "Just tonight, Chunsa, be mine." His lips brushed gently against mine. His hand pulled my waist closer to him, and I felt one of his hands locked the door. I have never been shaken by a kiss before. When he started walking somewhere in that dark room, I couldn't do anything but followed his lead. When I felt the bed at my back, I came back to my senses. "This can't be." I whispered. I felt ticklish when his lips went down to my jaw. "I'll give you what your fiance can't." He whispered sexily as he bite my earlobe. I bite my lower lip as I felt the aching between my legs. How can a kiss feel that much?
