Train, study, eat, sleep, repeat. This became Angels life, days rolled into weeks, weeks into months and months into years. Her two constants were Sam and Lillyanne. Carlos and Steel weren't there more than they were, but they always returned for a while.
Angels little supernatural family made her happy, she had finally learned to drop her guard and trust again. They had honed her into a lethal weapon. Well, if she had ever actually seen any action she would be a lethal weapon, all she did was train and kill demons in her sleep. She was seventeen now almost eighteen and craving a real adventure.
She had made up her mind, with both Carlos and Steel away she had enlisted the help of Lillyanne and they both begged Sam to take her to the Tavern for a night, he had finally acquiesced seeing as the moon was not full for a whole week yet.
"Ahhh who am I to say no to a wee girl having a bit of fun, if ye was born in a different time yed already be knocked up with a few small whelps already, he claimed, plus ye could ask me anything and I'd say yes to yer, just don't tell Carlos and Steel, they'll have me skin"
Angel happily agreed, when it came to her, those two were super protective. They had never been able to have children of their own, they had wanted them, Lillyanne was barren. They had claimed her as their own, she loved it but it sometimes made it hard to breathe, she barely ever left the compound.
Wearing simple jeans, adidas trainers and a dark singlet, Angel still felt like that imperfect freak of a girl, Lillyanne often scolded her for being quite simply unaware of her striking looks, her height, her figure. She still did not want to stand out but Lillyanne had coerced her into a slick of red lipstick.
"You're stunning my girl," crowed Lillyanne.
Walking past the row of bikes and into the Tavern she felt butterflies in her tummy. As soon as she was in there all of her senses were assaulted, the music the smells and all of the body heat. She could feel eyes on her as well. Searching the room, she saw him staring at her. Wolf, she recognised his smell immediately, Alpha she thought confused, his alpha scent was weak, much weaker then Steels aura.
Interesting, she thought to herself arching an eyebrow, lets see where this evening goes.
Before she knew it Lillyanne had thrust a glass in her hand.
"What is this?" asked Angel.
"Rum my girl, nectar of the gods. Drink it slowly, let it warm your body through."
Angel took a sip... hmmm she thought. I like this. Warmth flooded her body and blood was pumping to all different parts of her body. Well, thought Angel this is indeed new.
"Do you know that man by the pool table?" she asked Lillyanne.
"What, that big bad wolf whos looking like he wants to eat you all up, giggled Lillyanne, yes I know him. He is the Alpha of the Blackmoon Road Crew, Lucian Blackwood, they have business here sometimes."
"Blackmoon Road Crew, what are they like?" queried Angel.
"Troublemakers, riff raff. I'm sure you are smart enough to handle him if he gets too carried away, winked Lillyanne, now how's that rum going, lets top you up and one for me too," she guffawed.
Lilly had a heavy hand and before Angel knew it she was two more rums deep, the small lady had become even more loud and boisterous then she usually was. Angel, who had never really drunk, was feeling a little lightheaded and unsteady on her feet.
Getting up she asked where the ladies was, and was making her way there when she felt those eyes back on her.
"Why haven't I seen you here before?" a deep male voice enquired.
Looking up Angel noted it was the big bad wolf who had been checking her out earlier.
"Maybe because I haven't been here before" she stated as a matter of fact. She studied his face, he was older than her but not much, he was handsome and he knew it she deduced.
"What's your name?" he asked.
"Angel, she replied staring into his eyes, and yours."
"Lucian" he said staring right back at her.
Angel felt strange, as if time stopped staring at him.
"Who is your pack he asked and where are they? Why would anyone leave a beauty like you in a hole of a place like this alone?"
"I can assure you I can look after myself," she stated half laughing half serious.
"Rogue?" he questioned again.
"None of your business Lucian, now excuse me I must get back to my friend thanks."
She mustered up a surge of confidence and business like she marched off, she could feel his eyes boring into her back and she felt like that awkward unloveable freak again. Breathe, she told herself.
Lillyanne and Sam were surrounded amongst a crowd of laughter and revelry, Sam was telling his crude jokes and loving life. Lillyanne lit up at seeing her and soon pressed another glass of rum into her hands. Angel found herself seated in a corner perusing the scene, she instinctively knew the bikers were wolves, mostly humans looking to get drunk, layed, fight or all three, locals who didn't want to be alone.
And now Lucian coming her way. He was stalled by a beautiful blonde human who wanted more than his attention, she seemed to be getting it too, she saw his hand move to her arse as he whispered something in her ear, moving off he slapped her behind. Something stirred in Angel, jealousy perhaps?
He was headed right in her direction and was soon standing next to her, Angel felt a shiver down her spine, "Run with me next full moon" he whispered.
She arched her brow at him, "You seem to have your hands full with the blonde with the big t**s over there?"
"Jealous," he smirked.
She rolled her eyes, "Not of someone I have just met"
"Im serious, he said. Let's live for the moment and run. Tell me where and when. Im yours."
Im yours, why did those two words sound so delicious dripping from his mouth.
At that moment Sam noticed Lucian and beckoned him over.
"This isn't finished," he whispered to her and left. He was engaged in what looked like serious conversation with Sam, before they both disappeared to the staff quarters.
Angel realised she felt some disappointment and carried on people watching. A strange whiff of a smell assaulted her nostrils. Putting her drink down she realised she had had enough, and was wanting some fresh air. The tavern was on the riverfront beside the forest and she thought the crisp night air would be just what she needed to clear her head. Breathing in the clear air, she looked up at the moon and stars, moon goddess give me strength she whispered out loud to herself. Her wolf was suddenly hit by a human aura, a foul smell radiating towards her. Turning her head she saw a big bald man smoking a cigarette walking through the shadows towards her.
"What's a peach like you doing out here all alone," he leered at her.
"I don't want company thanks," she snapped.
"Oh thats what they all say he said, there's no one out here to hear you girl. See that van over there, without a sound you are gonna walk over there and get in that van before you're sorry."
Lifting his shirt, he pointed to the gun tucked into his pants.
"Before you're sorry," she remarked.
"Get the f**k in the van now w***e, before I slice you from your cunt to your tits."
It was only a second but a wave of emotions hit Angel, mostly fear, anguish, pain and horror. It was a window of emotions that emanated from this man and what she knew were his past victims.
Anger rose in her belly, in a split second before this monster could even blink, Angel was upon him and she had snapped his neck in the process. He dropped like a sack of potatoes, pouncing on him she expertly pulled a tiny dagger from her jeans and plunged it straight through this monsters heart, now she knew he was dead for sure. She stepped over him, she knew the pungent smell would shortly be released and she was ready to go back to the bar. Looking up she noticed Sam and Lucian watching her.
Lucian looked in awe and Sam was shaking his head, "How will we explain this," he sighed, shaking his head..
"Looks like he had an awkward fall to me, shrugged Angel. Make sure the cops check his van too, call it a hunch but I think he may have a penchant for picking up lone females and not being so nice to them."
Sam hurried inside to call the sheriff and as she turned around to check where the man lay she swore she saw the ghostly figures of five young females turn and bow to her before dissipating into the night. Angel blinked wondering if what she saw what was right.
She felt the heat of Lucian behind her, "Come on, he grabbed her hand let me get you out of here."
Without even thinking she followed towards his bike and jumped on behind him.
She didn't know where she was going and at this point she didn't care.
