Summer seasons in the human world are quite exciting, lots of outings and vacation places to go and of course, lots of women in bikinis and underwear walking on beaches. But Savana’s group did not come to appreciate all those things in the human realm. They were in there to accomplish an errand tasked by her father to her brother, the alpha of their pack and the second prince of their kingdom.
Their world can be considered as the parallel universe of the human world where supernatural beings are found; vampires, fairies, gnomes, trolls, witches and wizards, monsters, gods and goddesses, mermaids, nymphs, and in their case, werewolves.
Savana belong to the royal family who reigns the country of werewolves which consist of one hundred eleven packs, including their great pack, the Royals. As said earlier, the Royals governed by the second prince as their alpha, Seven Kyler DeRaverde Emperial known as the unmated alpha because at the age of twenty-nine, he still hasn’t found his mate.
Savana is the only girl in the group, she tagged along to accompany her brother and her mate, Jaden, who happened to be the beta of their pack. But moreover, she wants to always check on her dear brother.
Seven isn’t the type to talk much, he is very quiet and only speak when giving orders, he emits a very intimidating aura that no werewolf can stand against. He has a lean build but toned muscles and tanned skin, his height reaching six feet two inches. More than that, he has a well-defined jawline and a pointed nose with his lips thin on the upper and plump on the lower, his eyes is in slits with very dark orbs accentuating his black hair cut in mullet. In short, Savana’s brother is very handsome and can be considered as the most handsome alpha in their country. Unfortunately, this handsome alpha is unmated. That’s why many she-wolves are flaunting their body on him, but her brother doesn’t care. He does not even throw them a single glance. So, Savana knew, that her alpha brother is still waiting for his Luna patiently and faithfully. And it broke her heart in that thought, how she wished he found his mate already.
Werewolves bound to find their mates at the beginning of their adulthood. At the age of eighteen for females and twenty-one for males, and those who’s unable to find their partner on that age only take a year or two to finally found them, but it’s been eight years for her brother.
Eight years of being alone. Of being the laughing stock of other alphas, only that they laugh behind the Royals back, of course. Because no matter what, Seven is still the second prince and the alpha of the strongest pack.
‘Where are we heading this time?’ Savana asked when she noticed their car isn’t heading to where the portal to the parallel world is.
‘We still have to wait the response of the council before we go back. They asked us to give them at least three days to decide about our proposal.’ Jaden answered.
She was seating at the backseat with him, while her brother is on the passenger’s seat and Mori, the gamma, is on the driver’s seat.
Jaden was talking about the Human Council, an organization of the human world who knows about the parallel universe. They were the ones responsible on handling any chaos or destruction brought by supernatural beings in the human world. They consist of hunters, people who hunts rouges or any supernatural beings who came in the human realm without permission or pass; healers, people who are knowledgeable in healing creatures of both world; and fighters, people who are responsible in keeping peace and order in places where supernatural beings are allowed.
Because of the increasing number of werewolves finding their mates in the human world, hybrids or those who were born half werewolf and half human are increasing, too. The parallel world is quite not suitable for hybrids to live in because other countries are still against the existence of hybrids. They believe that the parallel world only belongs to pure blooded supernatural beings. To keep the hybrids from danger, the king asked the Royals to proposed an agreement to the Human Council.
‘So, where are we going then?’ Savana asked again. She looked at her brother leaning on the window and watching the road silently.
‘We’re going to Hunterville.’
She jerked at Mori’s answer. Hunterville. It’s the place where hunters gather and trained. Why the hell would they go there? Is there any rouge?
‘Relax. We’re not intruders, they won’t hurt us.’ Jaden said and hold her hands. She just nodded and erased the thought in her mind.
Silence fell inside the car and after thirty minutes passed, the car stopped on a clear and wide front parking. Mori parked the car on the slot near the entrance. They exit the car and headed to the entrance where huge letters engraved on the entrance arch.
Welcome to Hunterville Wellness and Beach Resort
Beach resort. What the heck.
Savana heard Jaden chuckled. ‘It’s summer time! What do you expect?’
She shot him a glare. ‘You dare look at a naked woman and you’re dead.’
‘I prefer looking at a naked you, mate.’
She blushed and he just smirked.
They were greeted by a petite woman who introduced herself as May, the manager of the place, and brought them inside the president’s office.
‘Wow. It’s the prince and his gang.’ The man behind the president’s table said. Human. Of course. He rises from his seat and offer a handshake. ‘Hunter Gregory. Nice meeting you.’
Her brother reached out his hand and shake Hunter’s. ‘Seven Emperial. And this are my companions, Savana, Jaden and Mori.’
They reached out their hands to handshake him too. After that they were told to have a seat.
‘I heard that you’ll be staying for three days. The council called.’ Hunter said.
‘Yes. We are grateful for giving us shelter while we are here.’ Seven responded.
‘Well, as if I can say no. We’re dealing with the Royals here, you know?’ said Hunter again then laughed. The three of them were just silently sitting and listening to Hunter and Seven’s conversations. ‘Anyway, I haven’t told the manager about this so we still haven’t made a reservation. Stay here first and I’ll just go and tell them to prepare your rooms. I’ll be back.’
And then he goes. He left the werewolves in his office. Not long after, his secretary, Savana presume, bring snacks and drinks in their table. She looked at those things. How the hell do they think they will consume those? What if there’s poison in there?
She was about to shove it, when her brother reached for his glass of juice.
‘Brother!’
‘Relax. The Gregory’s are righteous people, they don’t just kill anyone in broad daylight.’ And he sips his juice.
So, they took their own glass and drinks from it too. Summer in human world is very hot and humid. You will really need lots of water to hydrate yourself.
‘What are we going to do while we’re here?’ Savana asked again.
‘Enjoy the place.’ Mori answered.
Not a bad idea. The place looks so refreshing and breathtaking. They saw a glimpse of the villas aligned on the curve of the seashore and from where they are, they could see the magnificent hotel surrounded by pools and cottages. There are also lots of people walking from here to there, mostly wearing bikinis and trunks.
‘What is this place?’ Savana asked, she’s confused by the amount of people. She knew Hunterville is a place for hunters to train but….
‘It’s not where the hunters trained actually.’ Mori responded. ‘They train on the woods not far from here, this is simply their business. The main financial provider for their weapons, gears and wages.’
‘And it’s not just exclusively for hunters as well. It’s open for ordinary people, too.’ Jaden added.
Seven put down his glass on the table. ‘That’s why you need to be careful. Avoid interacting with them as much as possible. We don’t want—’ his words were cut off by the sudden shout of his sister.
All three of them were looking at their alpha intently when they notice his eyes turned gold, an indication that his mate is nearby.
‘Brother!’
‘Alpha…’
Seven’s hand gripped the glass tightly. He could feel the sudden heat in his eyes and the fast beating of his heart. His wolf wanting to be released immediately.
His mate is nearby. He and his wolf can feel her. He rose immediately and hurriedly went outside of the room. He could smell a faint odor of honey; rich, warm and comforting. The mild scent sending shivers and excitement to his body. Never did he feel something like this. He rushed outside of the building ignoring the looks of every person he passed by, his feet moving very sure towards his target. While Savana and the others are tailing behind him. They badly want to see and meet their future Luna.
The scent led Seven inside the hotel. He entered and went straight to the elevator but seeing it on use and there’s no other vacant lift, he rushed to the exit and used the stair instead. Because of the enclosed space, he didn’t hesitate using his wolf speed and stopped just at the right floor. He was greeted by a hallway with five doors in each side. He stepped out of the exit while catching his breath. His mind was filled by sudden thoughts. What will his mate look like? What is her name? And more importantly, there is a high chance that she’s human, what will he do?
But before he could even sort out his thoughts, the scent fade away. He stopped on his tracks. He tried to feel and sniff the scent but to no avail, it as if the scent disappeared like a bubble. It vanished without any trace.
Savana found her brother standing in between the hallway of the twelfth floor. Unmoving and emitting a deadly aura. She can’t help but exchange glances with the two. All of them were confused of what could have happened. Savana gathered up the courage and approached her brother.
‘A-alpha…’
‘It vanished…’
‘W-what vanished…’
Seven turned his face to his sister harshly. ‘The scent vanished, Van! Her scent! I can no longer feel her.’ He said then grabbed his hair tightly. He probably looks so damn frustrated right now but the hell he cares! He’s been waiting for her ever since he turned twenty-one! Why won’t the moon goddess allow them to meet?! He was so close to finding her! What went wrong?
Where the hell is she?!
Just when he was about to punch the wall beside him, a door behind them opened.
Seven looked back harshly and was greeted by a pair of warm brown eyes. All of his frustration about what had just happened seemed to vanished too and he, instead, found himself staring at the woman standing at the doorway. The woman has long black hair reaching her waistline, she has small rounded face with almond shaped eyes, small pointed nose and a bow-shaped lips. Her skin is fair and she has a slim body. And her height, she barely reached past his shoulder.
She’s staring at them with innocent and confused eyes. Seven can’t seem to take his eyes off the woman, there something about her that he can’t point out. But he didn’t think she was his mate. Her scent is different from earlier, but the fast beating was there.
‘Uhm. Excuse me…’ the woman said and close the door behind her, then walk past them. She looked back once again and found those dark orbs still staring at her, so she walks faster and never looked back again.
‘She looked frightened.’ Jaden remarked. All of them was looking at the corner where the girl vanished.
Seven let out a sigh harshly. Why does he feel so restless knowing the girl is afraid of him? And why does he feel something towards that girl? Something he can’t explained. Is the moon goddess playing him? For eight years of not meeting or sensing his mate, he never had any feelings towards any she-wolf. He almost believed that the goddess did not give him a mate. And now, that he finally sensed her, he’s beginning to feel something towards someone!
Seven knew what his feelings could led him into. He needs to stay away from that girl. He needs to erase her in his system!
He walked back to the office, his companions following him, and is determined to never cross path with that girl again.
*****
Reign abruptly stopped as soon as she reached the entrance of the hotel where she just emerged. She’s breathing heavily and she couldn’t stop herself from shaking. She’s freaking scared! No. Terrified! The man she saw looks like a monster ready to devour her! She remembered those eyes, dark yet as if glowing with fire; lips in thin line as if ready to spout fire and hands in fist as if ready to throw a fist of fire.
Yes! Fire! Everything’s on fire! His entire body looks like on fire. Reign thought that he must be very angry about something. She remembered the fortune teller they met along the way on that resort….
Reign and her friends decided to spend their summer vacation at Hunterville, a resort where Donna, one of her friends, work at. She just finished her contract on her previous job and she decided to spend the summer on vacation first before she goes job hunting again. She was unable to graduate with degree because of poverty, that’s why she can only get minor jobs with six months contract. Fortunately, this trip was paid by Adrian, one of her rich friends, or else she wouldn’t be able to afford even the entrance fee of the resort.
‘Hey! Let’s have a stop at the next gas station! My bladder’s about to burst!’ Rica shouted. She’s a lady with short blonde hair and is seating at the furthest seat of the van.
Everyone laughed at what she said.
‘Nah. Just let it burst!’ Adrian, the driver, answered.
‘Yeah! Let’s see how’s it like when a bladder burst!’ Benjie added and laughed. He’s sitting next to Adrian.
The entire van exploded in laughter.
‘Damn you, guys!’ said Rica then started throwing tangerine peels to them.
‘Do that and this van of yours will reek of urine.’ Reign said to Adrian while laughing.
As if out of his disgust, Adrian suddenly put the van on stopped. Because of their conversations and laughter, they didn’t even realize that they are already in a gas station. They exit the van one after another. They were eight in total, the four mentioned earlier and there’s Maureen, Bea, Linzy and Mark. All of them are high school buddies.
Maureen and Linzy accompanied Rica to the toilet while the others decided to enter the convenience store. Only Reign decided to stay inside the van. She feels so sleepy somehow.
‘Are you sure you’re, okay?’ Adrian asked her.
‘Yes, I’m just sleepy. I guess.’ She smiled sweetly at him. Adrian just nodded and left her already.
Reign was dozing off to sleep when she heard a sound of knocking. She opened her eyes and saw an old woman in front of her. The van’s door was open and there, the old woman standing, holding the door and looking at her intently. She straightened herself from her seat and asked the old woman politely.
‘Err. Do you need something?’
The old woman nodded. Reign waited for her to speak. But the old woman held out her hand first. Confused, Reign looked back at the old woman.
‘Your hand. Let me see your future.’ The woman spoke.
‘Oh! You’re a fortune teller!’
‘Yes, I am.’
Reign felt thrilled. She hasn’t experienced this yet. She feels somewhat excited yet doubtful. Some fortune tellers are quack and only few are genuine. And besides, she finds it hard to believe they really was able to see someone’s future.
Nevertheless, she reached out her hand to the old woman. She thought that there’s no harm in trying.
The old woman’s hand was cold yet soft despite of the evident wrinkles on it.
‘Your name is…. Mona Reign Vista.’
Reign gasped. The old woman was right. But how did she know? She looked at the old woman with an enigmatic smile plastered on her face.
‘You haven’t had any relationship with a man.’
‘Y-Yes...’
‘Not because you’re not attractive enough, but because you have to be preserved. Not to be touch by anyone, not to be claim—’
‘W-Wait! What do you mean by that? Preserved?’ Reign was aghast. Preserved for what? For who?
‘For someone powerful and dangerous. Someone unordinary…’
‘H-Hey…Granny, don’t scare me like that…’ Reign tried to take her hand back but the woman did not let it go.
‘But worry not, he may be dangerous, but he will be gentle towards you. He maybe powerful, but you will be his only weakness. He maybe unordinary, but he will love and cherish you unconditionally.’ The woman’s eyes turned warm and comforting. ‘But you still need to be careful. His enemies are yours.’
Before Reign could even move, she just felt something in her bare wrist. The woman holding a thing looking like a bangle made of wood with golden sculptures of unknown alphabets on its half inch thickness, gently sliding it to her arm.
‘This will keep you from his enemies. Never take it off.’ The woman looked at her eyes intently. ‘Never.’
She looked down at the bangle in her arm, it surprisingly fits her, not so big that it slides off to her arm. She tried to read the engravings but she can’t even identify if it means something or just a decoration.
‘What does it say?’ she asked the woman. No one answered. She looked up but the old woman was no longer there. She exited the van and looked around looking for any trace of the woman, but found none.
Reign thought that it all feels weird and enchanting. She doesn’t want to believe it but she remembered the woman knowing her full name and her relationship status.
‘Someone…. unordinary...?’ she thought…
‘Someone unordinary…’ Reign spoke her thoughts out. ‘But that man looks extraordinarily mad!’ She burst out.
She shook her head off trying to erase the handsome yet furious face of the guy outside her room. Why, in the first place, is she thinking and assuming that the ‘someone’ the old woman talks about is him? Yes, he looks dangerous. So dangerous that Reign thought there is no way he can be gentle. She caressed the bracelet in her wrist. When she took it off earlier in her room to wash her arms, red marks were visible, as if someone’s gripping her wrist tightly. But it doesn’t feel so tight when she’s wearing it, it feels light and warm, in fact. Somehow, making her feel safe and secure, and she can’t understand why.
She proceeded on walking towards where her friends are. They were actually in the pool area taking pictures. Donna is already with them. Turns out that she specifically took a leave today just so she can have fun with her high school buddies. Reign joined the picture taking. They were at it for about an hour, taking pictures everywhere around the whole vicinity of the hotel.
They only stopped when they are already in the garden of the building.
‘Oh, right!’ Donna exclaimed suddenly. ‘The management is holding a pageant here today, by the way!’
‘Really?! What pageant?’ Bea asked. Among the girls, she is known for her modelling part-time job because of her slim and tall physique.
‘It’s a pageant held here every second week of the month. All applications are accepted and there’s no rules or height limit or whatsoever. You just need to be brave and confident to flaunt yourself in swimsuit in front of audiences and some judges.’ Donna look among all the girls. ‘You guys should participate.’
‘Right. We, boys are going to cheer for you all!’ Benjie added.
‘I’m just going to cheer, too.’ Linzy said raising her hand. ‘I’m not good at walking in heels.’
‘I’m in then!’ Bea remarked.
‘I don’t like being stared at, so pass.’ Maureen said.
‘Me, too!’ Reign exclaimed.
They all looked at Rica waiting for her answer. ‘Oh, c’mon. I don’t like pageants. Donna?’
‘I can’t. Employees can’t participate.’
‘Then we only have Bea.’ Mark said.
‘What are the prizes?’ Reign asked Donna.
‘Well, usually it’s a three-day stay on the villas or can be converted on cash, too. Then a presumptuous feast free of charge or a gift certificate for all the souvenir shops here. Stuffs like that.’
‘You know, girls, the more participating, the higher chance of winning.’ Adrian added.
‘Right.’ Reign added too. ‘Linzy, why don’t you participate? You don’t need heels, you’re tall enough!’
‘No way! I’m not confident!’ Linzy answered with matching headshake.
‘I know Bea can win those, but it’s more fun if you guys join, too.’ Donna said smiling at them all.
‘Why don’t you join, Reign?’ Mark asked. Reign looked at her and laughed.
‘Right! Reign, let’s join together!’ Bea exclaimed running to her and grabbing her arm.
All of her friends are looking at her. Hopeful. Waiting for her ‘yes’. Reign could understand why her friends are being like that. Aside from Bea, she’s next to being the most confident in their group. Due to her nature of work and lots of job interview experiences, she developed a calm and confident personality and is used to being watched and evaluated.
So, to make her friends happy, she nodded. And all of them shrieked in delight. After the application, they received their numbers for the pageant. Turns out that there's already fifteen candidates because Reign got the sixteenth and Bea got seventeenth. The pageant will start at four in the afternoon, so all of them decided to stay and rest first.
Walking back to their own rooms, Reign remembered the furious guy and his stares again. She can't help but shiver.
'You okay?' she heard Adrian asked.
She just nodded. 'I'm going in first. See you guys later!' and she immediately slipped on her room. She doesn't want to tell her friends about what happened. She knew Adrian. He will probably tail and guard her if he knew that.
'Okay, Reign. Forget him. You won't see him again.' she thought and lay down on her bed. She's wishing not to cross path with that guy ever again.
