Cassy
Aside from the fact that Drake was being annoying, I was feeling anxious as well. I walked into the office, and Drake tried to walk in with me, but I didn't like the idea. I turned around, facing him.
"You can wait outside. I got this." I said in a low tone. He hesitated for a while as his eyes continuously darted between me and the director. After a while, he exhaled heavily, looking me deep in the eyes before talking.
"I will be outside." He murmured but I heard what he said. I gave him a nod and he walked out of the office, shutting the door behind him. I heaved a heavy sigh as I turned back to face the director to greet him properly.
"I am sorry about that director. My name is ...." He didn't let me finish what I was saying before he completed it on my behalf.
"Cassandra Orlov. You will be a manager in the company. Your father and I spent ample time talking about you and your recent achievements in college. That's why you...." I had no patience to wait for him to finish what he wanted to say. I cleared my throat slightly to interrupt him and it worked.
"I am sorry to interrupt you, director, but the only thing you got correctly was my name. I am not here to manage any department in this working institution. I came here as an intern. That's what I came here to be, and hopefully, at the end of my internship, I will be recommended to the board for retention." I chuckled and he did the same, lowering his head for a while before he started to talk.
"First of all, my name is Director Kim. Secondly, your father must have lied to you about your coming to this place." He paused and I felt my heart slow down its beat. Did Dad lie to me? Why would he lie to me? I sat there in silence as I didn't know what to say. Many thoughts rushed through my mind. Drake's words reverberated in my mind as I fixed my gaze on the sheet that lay there on his table. Drake knew about it. That was why he made that comment in the car. I clenched my teeth tightly and made my hand into a tight fist as if I wanted to land a punch on him when I saw him.
"You don't seem to be here with me! What is wrong with you? Why are you acting like you don't know what you are coming here to be? Were you really thinking that your father would allow you to stay here as an intern? With his status and influence? I don't think so." I inhaled deeply with a subtle smirk, tilting my head slightly to give him a straight look.
"Thank you, Director Kim. Can I be escorted to my office?" I said with a smile on my face, trying not to show disappointment. He grinned before he reached for his phone on the table. He made a call, and soon enough, the door opened, and a lady walked into the office.
"Welcome aboard, Cassy, we hope you enjoy your stay here. Lisa here will take you to your office. Let me know if you will need any help settling into your new space." He said in a low tone and I nodded slowly. I walked out of his office, and Drake gave me a puzzled look, but I didn't say a word to him. I arrived at my office, just a few offices away from Director Kim's office.
"You are silent. What's wrong with you?" Drake finally broke the silence after a long moment of silence. I swirled around my chair, trying to understand the reason behind my father's lying to me. He could have told me that I was only going there based on his status and influence. I didn't talk to Drake because I didn't want to burst out but he didn't seem to get the clue at all.
"Look, I understand the point that you have made, not to meddle in your business. I am not trying to meddle in your business. This is part of my work as your guardian. I need to know when you are fine and when you are not. Your father asked me to make sure that you are fine all the time." I could not help but let a scoff escape my lips. Did he think he was talking to a two-year-old baby?
"Are you asking because you don't know or you are asking because you want to hear me say it? You said my father asked you to make sure that I am okay at all times, that's not if both of you are the reason behind it." He looked at me like he was shocked that it came out of my mouth.
"I was going to tell you. In the car, on our way here. Things haven't really been going well between us and you know it. It's hard to pass information when we are not talking well with each other. I wanted to talk to you earlier in the car, but you insisted that we stay that way with each other.
"That does not count at all. You knew right before we left the mansion. During the flight and even when we went for the ride yesterday. You had every opportunity to talk about it but what did you do? You chose to rub it on my face." I stopped talking abruptly as I didn't feel the need to continue talking.
"I am not at fault here. And don't get me wrong, it's not your fault, nor your father's fault. He is only trying to give you the best, I am here to protect you. That was why I told you that you don't expect him to allow you to come here and become an intern." He said in a low tone but I didn't utter a single word in response to what he said.
