Chapter 9
Drake
"So tell me!" Her voice suddenly echoed, jolting me from my reverie. For a moment, I was sinking deep into my thoughts. I tried to know what her thoughts were, but each time that I was closer to getting a clue, I came up with nothing. I looked at her briefly, and just when I wanted to talk, she started to talk.
"I was curious, " I said, puzzled. What could she be curious about? "Do you have someone in your life? Like, are you in a relationship?" I chuckled slightly. That question was quite unexpected. I quickly gathered my thoughts.
"Why did you ask? Why are you curious about it?" I asked in a low tone, tilting my head back to look at her as she said nothing. She smirked. What was going on? All of a sudden, she changed, started acting, and was a whole different person.
"I don't understand. I have the right to know every detail of who is on my payroll. Plus, I want to know your reason." She talked slowly like she was counting her words as they escaped her lips. There was a moment of silence as we continued the ride.
"I don't think that information is necessary, and secondly, I don't have to keep reminding you that I am on your father's payroll and not yours. I work for your father and not you. You just happen to be my job, and trust me, you are a tough job." Her facial expression was unreadable. She gave me a straight face as if she were thinking of what to say next.
"All I have to do is make a call. Tell my father that you...." I interrupted her right in the middle of her speech.
"That's what exactly, Cassy? That I rejected you when you made advances to me? What do you think he is going to say or do?" My voice was slightly raised to instill fear, but she showed that she was the true daughter of her father. She countered me with a louder tone, just as he father would do.
"Do you think raising your voice would make me go back on my words? You know what, I don't want you to be my bodyguard anymore. I don't want you to be around me. It has been nothing but chaos ever since he mentioned your job. So, I want to change the narrative." She seemed angry. I knew the best thing to do at this point was to keep shut and let the tension ease out.
"Turn the car around. I don't want this anymore." I didn't hesitate and turned the car back around. My heart raced faster in my chest. Did she really mean what she had just said? I mean, how would I know that she was being taken care of by someone else? I heaved a heavy sigh, waiting patiently for her to talk.
The drive back to the house was silent. She walked straight to her room, and I went back to mine. I paced around the room. My mind was unsettled as many thoughts rushed through my mind. J took several deep breaths to ease the tension in my chest, but it only got worse. Just then, my phone began to buzz. Seeing who was calling, my heart left my chest for a moment. The whole world came to a standstill, and time paused for a moment. It was him, her father. Could they have talked, and he was calling to withdraw me from the job? I took a deep breath before I dragged the answer button to pick up the call.
"Hello, sir." I tried to be as calm as ever, not to give off any sign of instability.
"Drake!" His voice was sharp and direct. That made my heart skip a beat. I cleared my throat slightly to sound clearer.
"Yes, sir! Is everything alright, boss?" I asked, trying to find out what was going on with him.
"I should be asking you that! What is going on, Drake?" Now he threw the question back at me, and that left me confused. Unsure of how to answer his question. I didn't know if he had spoken to his daughter, and she had carried on with her threats. I paced around the room slowly as I tried to come up with a perfect reply.
"Everything is going well, boss. We just arrived from a drive-around. She wanted to get familiar with the environment before she resumed her internship tomorrow." I explained slowly, preparing my ears to hear a yell, but the opposite happened.
"That explains why I have been calling her, and she is not picking up." I heaved a heavy sigh of relief as I placed a palm over my forehead.
"I think so. Perhaps she is just taking a shower in the bathroom. You don't have to worry about anything. I am here." I assured him, and the call ended immediately. I tossed the phone on the chair in the corner. Many thoughts rushed through my mind. I can not stay in this loop. I knew that I had to choose between f*****g my boss's child and getting my head blown off, or being professional and staying clear of her, even though she was all I wanted. I inhaled deeply. I had to go and knock on her door.
The door opened and I walked inside. She was in a bum short and a see-through top. I could see boobs as they hung firmly on her chest. I tried to lower my gaze but her thick thighs weren't helping me at all either.
"What brought you here? Is there anything left for you to say?" She asked in a low tone as she continued to walk towards her bed. I shook my head slightly before I started to talk.
"I just realised that I shouldn't have raised my voice at you." I paused for a moment, hoping that she was going to say something but she stayed quiet.
"See, if we don't agree with each other, there is no way I can do my job to the best of my ability." She didn't let me finish before she interrupted me.
"I agree." She said in a low tone.
