Hayes
(Three days earlier)
"You know that I have always been waiting for an opportunity to work with you, Mr Orlov." I walked into the sitting room, and that was the first thing I heard. Was it the same Orlov that he always talked about? I had wanted to go up to my room, but I was suddenly interested in his conversation.
"That would not be a problem. She will have the best experience here. You can trust me on that." He said, and a smile appeared on my face. I didn't know what he was saying on the other side of the phone call, but I knew someone was coming over to our place, and it was going to be a female.
"Oh! I was thinking she could stay with us throughout her stay. I mean, it's just a tool from the big mansion. There are many vacant rooms here. She has to choose one of her choices." Was Dad trying to make her come live with us? Whoever she was, I was sure her father would have made arrangements for where she was going to stay.
"Okay! I get it, sir. You don't have to worry about that. That's double protection, and you can rest assured that everything will be fine. It is a pleasure to work with you." He said finally and took the phone off his ears with a subtle grin on his face. I didn't know how to react, so I kept quiet and waited for him to talk, but he was really pushing my curiosity limit.
"Are you trying to make me ask you what is going on, Dad?" I finally broke the silence. As if he were waiting for me to talk, he didn't waste any time before he gave me a reply.
"Yes. Why did it take you long enough to figure it out?" I chuckled, unsure of what to say as I looked away from him.
"What is going on? Was that the almighty Orlov you were talking to over the phone?" I asked, trying to look surprised rather than excited. He nodded instantly, taking a deep breath. I could see the excitement on his face as he looked at his phone before he cleared his throat to talk.
"You are full of luck, after all. One day, you fly in from Switzerland, and barely a week after, Bruce Orlov is calling to have a space ready for her daughter's arrival at the company. Do you know what this means?" I gasped as I was shocked.
"This is the biggest opportunity of a lifetime. An opportunity to have something to do with the almighty Orlov. Fear mixed with excitement rushed through my body, and I didn't even know which was dominating.
"You don't understand, do you? Do you understand what it means for Bruce to want his daughter to come over here? Bruce is someone everyone would want to have in his corner...." I didn't wait for him to finish before I interrupted him.
"Yeah... Dad, this is the best opportunity yet. It is an opportunity that we have been looking for. Do you know the benefits that come with it?" He gave me a silent stare for seconds before he inhaled deeply.
"We have to be careful, Bruce can be very brutal if we don't do it to his satisfaction. He will definitely come for us." He paused for a while, and the fear in me surged
"He needs his daughter to leave town for some reason but not out of the country. He asked me to create a working space within my company for her to manage in the meantime before he gets done with what he wants to do. Do you know what this means?" He asked, and for a moment, I tried to think about what he had said.
"I think I know where this is going. We can actually get to him through his daughter." I proposed, and he gave me three nods. My heart pounded harder as I leaned forward to talk properly.
"Now you are getting the hang of it. I need you to make her fall in love with you. That's the best chance that we have, and not just that, I need you to stay in love with her." He said in a low tone, and I didn't know when I burst into laughter.
"Don't joke with this opportunity. He had many people to give this chance, but he chose me, and please don't screw this up. I will be stupid not to utilise this opportunity graciously." He added, grunting as he stood up from the chair and walked towards the stairs. I sat there, thinking about what he had just said. He was right. I needed to do this. Many thoughts rushed through my mind as I was already visualising how it was going to play out.
"Double protection! What did he mean by that?" I stood up immediately, walking up the stairs, and after a few turns, I was in front of his door. I knocked, and the door opened immediately.
"Make sure you get an office prepped and make sure it's up to standard." I met him on the call. He really took this seriously.
"I overheard you talking about double protection the other time. I didn't have the opportunity to ask before you came upstairs." He nodded his head, walking back towards the bed to sit.
"She will be here with a bodyguard. Her father doesn't trust that she could stay here alone."
"Too much for being a girl and the child of an influential man like him. I can not relate to that, though." He made a scrunching look before he talked.
"You never told me you needed a bodyguard. Did you?" He asked. I inhaled deeply as I stood up from the chair and walked towards the door. His voice suddenly echoed, and I halted, tilting my head to look at him.
"We have a lot of work to do, son. The next few months are going to be filled with activities." I only drew a subtle smile before I walked out.
