The two of them stood there silently for a long, long time. Sima Qing moved her legs, realizing that they were about to cramp if she didn't.
He bent down and picked her up, placing her on the sofa, and touched her hand, finding it was still warm. He turned off the central air conditioning, picked up the light blanket from the sofa, and covered her, using the remote control to turn off all the main lights, leaving only the small, amber-colored light in the corner casting a soft glow. He sat there holding her, without speaking, his hand gently patting her back.
Listening to the familiar sound of his heartbeat, she drifted off to sleep almost immediately, while he remained awake. The scene from earlier kept replaying in his mind. He couldn’t imagine how much pain he would feel if he were to lose her. This young girl he had kept in his heart for thirteen years was deeply etched in his soul. He looked at her face, so peaceful as she slept like an infant, and he couldn't help but to kiss her long eyelashes, her small nose, and finally her pink lips before moving away. He said to her in his mind, Do you know that big brother decided to spend his life with you when you were only three years old? So, big brother has been patiently waiting for you to grow up. You entered big brother's heart so early, and all these years I have never felt lonely or empty. Just knowing you are growing up gives me the strength and motivation. That’s why I built such a big company. What’s the point of all that if I ever lose you one day? The girl in his arms moved, as if she was uncomfortable in her sleep. He picked her up and carried her to his bedroom, carefully placing her on the bed and covering her with a light blanket. Sima Chun sat at the edge of the bed looking at her face, sleeping like an infant, until dawn.
Sima Mansion
Gao Suqing watched Guo Qian, disheveled and distraught, and thought to herself, What a useless woman. No wonder my son doesn't like you. Outwardly, she said, "Miss Guo, I think you and Chun’er make a good couple. You should put in more effort."
“Thank you, Madam, for thinking so highly of me. I’m sorry to have disappointed you tonight,” she said. Even though she felt terrible inside, she didn’t want to offend Gao Suqing. This was her first time at the Sima Mansion, and the grandiosity and scale of the place made her dream of becoming the mistress of this place. She thought that many of the women who had come last night must have felt the same way. In the past, she had foolishly loved Sima Chun, but he didn't even know who she was, and yesterday he had greatly humiliated her in that room. Sima Chun, the words the Old Madam speaks, she cannot take back. Your future won’t be easy. As long as I seize the opportunity, I'll make you realize who Guo Qian is! She vowed to regain her dignity.
An Da had not slept. Looking at the blood stains on the sheets, he felt bad for Lin Yue. He never thought the Old Madam and Madam would give them aphrodisiacs, and he never expected the thirty-year-old Lin Yue to be a virgin. After he went in, he couldn’t control himself and she was still affected by the drug. They had slept together several times before Lin Yue had finally collapsed on the bed, completely exhausted. He checked the clock. It was almost dawn. He helped the unconscious Lin Yue put on her clothes, wrapped her in a blanket, and picked up her shoes and bag, before heading downstairs. The banquet was already over, and the Sima Mansion was quiet. He placed Lin Yue on the small bed in the back of the helicopter and tried to wake her up, so he could ask where she lived and take her home, but it didn't look like she would wake up easily. So, he started the helicopter and flew back to the Empire Building. He carried Lin Yue into the President’s private secretary’s lounge, where he knew there was a small bed. It was almost dawn and Lin Yue still hadn’t woken up. Looking at her clothes, all torn and ruined, he wondered how she would react when she woke up. Would she even remember what happened last night? An Da was very anxious, and he looked worriedly at Lin Yue, wondering if he should wake her up.
Ring ring ring... Ring ring ring… Ring ring ring…
Lin Yue’s phone in her bag started ringing. An Da finally had a good reason to wake her up.
“Secretary Lin, Secretary Lin, Secretary Lin…,” Lin Yue didn't react.
Ring ring ring… Ring ring ring… Ring ring ring… The phone rang for the second time. An Da took the phone from her bag. It was a call from the 99th floor’s landline.
“Secretary Lin, the President is looking for you.” He said, pushing her awake. Lin Yue snatched the phone and sat up, using her hand to pull the blanket to cover herself, making sure nothing was showing, though she had been awake the moment he called her, but she didn't know how to face him so she had pretended to sleep.
“President, hello. Is there anything I can help you with?” she said, her voice completely professional, without any emotion.
“Secretary Lin, please bring some rice and vegetables to work later. It doesn’t matter if you buy a lot. That's all,”
"Okay, I’ll deliver them to you by eight o’clock," her voice was still completely devoid of any emotion. An Da anxiously watched her hang up the phone, not knowing what to say. Lin Yue broke the silence first.
"Mr. An, please pretend that nothing happened last night. You can leave," she said, her voice cold as ice.
"I’ll still go buy you some clothes,” he said, noticing her torn and tattered clothes, knowing she wouldn't be able to leave like that.
“There’s no need. Just leave.” Lin Yue’s voice was getting colder, which made An Da shudder.
An Da couldn't think of any excuse to stay, and very much wanted to comfort her, but her icy voice stopped him from getting close to her. He could only close the door and leave.
Lin Yue put on her shoes, a sharp pain in her lower body causing her to sweat all over. If the President never marries and has children, then I, as his private secretary, won't have a good life either, what a terrifying Madam, she thought, shivering involuntarily. It's gonna be a tough ride ahead, she thought, wondering why she ended up with An Da last night. Heavens, at over thirty years old and I’m still a virgin, how embarrassing! Thinking of how she had acted last night, she really wanted to crawl into a hole. How am I ever going to face An Da? I’m so embarrassed. Looking at the clock on the wall, it was 7 o’clock, she quickly composed herself, changed into some new clothes, and started her work for the day. How strange, the 99th floor hasn't had a kitchen in the last ten years, she thought. Is the President going to start cooking now? Has the playboy suddenly changed? She could only hope that he finds a woman, gets married, and has some children soon.
If you have never done something silly for love, then you have never truly experienced your first love.
Sima Chun was in the kitchen, holding a downloaded recipe in one hand, and a spatula in the other. He had never entered a kitchen before, let alone cook. He thought that cooking was so much harder than doing business. After a morning of hard work, he had worked up a sweat, and had finally made a table full of dishes. His heart was so nervous, I don't know if she’ll even bother eating it. He thought that now that he had another person living with him, no, he should say he now had a child living with him, he should get a couple of maids to help with the chores. When he got up this morning, he had first cleaned up the bathroom, and then asked Lin Yue to have their clothes dry cleaned. After cooking the meal, it was already 11 AM. He still had a pile of documents to go through downstairs.
“Wow, we’re having guests so early in the morning?” she said, having come from the bathroom, heading straight into the kitchen.
“No guests. We never have guests here. It’s just you and me,” he said, bringing out two sets of chopsticks and bowls.
“We can’t possibly eat all this food just by ourselves,”
“Oh, I didn’t know what you like to eat, so I just made a few things. Have a taste,"
“It looks delicious,” she said, picking up a piece of vegetable.
“Hmm, better than what I made,” she said, as she began eating her way through all the food on the table.
He breathed a sigh of relief, his heart no longer pounding.
"Qing’er, once we’ve finished eating, we should go shopping. You can write a list of everything you need, such as a schoolbag, stationary, clothes, and shoes. We need to finish shopping before 2:00 PM because I have a meeting at 2:30," Sima Chun said, glancing at the clock on the wall.
“Then I’ll have to wash the dishes first,” she said, feeling a little guilty eating without helping.
“No need, I’ll ask a housekeeper to do it later.” This was the first time he had ever eaten food he had made himself, and he had eaten two bowls of rice. He noticed that she had eaten two bowls too.
“A housekeeper? There’s no need, I’m really good at it,” Sima Qing said, staring at him, blankly.
“You should focus on studying. You won’t have any time to do this stuff," he said, realizing that housework was both tiring and a waste of time.
“I used to do a lot of chores at home, and my grades were really good too,” she said, letting him know that she didn’t want to live like a privileged heiress. “I can cook, wash clothes, and mop the floor, there’s no need for us to hire a housekeeper,” she said, insisting on her point of view.
Ding dong…. Ding dong…
Sima Chun knew that it must be his grandma and mom. Only they had the guts to come all the way up to the 99th floor. He continued eating, not wanting to open the door.
"Big brother, I’ll go open the door..."
