Chapter 004 Celeste's POV "you should take the day off, you look miserable." Alan said to me as he did his tie. I was curled up in a corner, beaten and tired. I was sore all over, I could barely see clearly, my tears made it blurry. I buried my head in my thighs attempting to wipe my tears, "it's fine, I'll go." "The hospital called... Your parents got into an accident..." "What?" My eyes widened in shock but he looked like it didn't matter. "When? When did they call?" I stood up slowly and he finally turned to face me with a smirk. "Last night." "What? Why didn't you tell me? Alan!" I yelled and he rushed to me and pushed me to the wall. "Hey hey! You speak to me with respect, one more strike and I'll make sure you never see the light of day!" He yelled but I started to cry, loud and clear. I had never cried aloud, he hated when I did but I didn't care anymore. I cried harder and I thought it'll break him but he pushed me to the ground. "And just in case, I won't be paying any bills." He stormed out and my phone screen lit up, there was a text from Troy. "This is Troy Anderson. Will you come into work?" I didn't click. I didn't need to, I was too weak to play happy so I just sat there, what could a CEO like him know? What would he know about suffering, what would he know about pain? Then another notification came in, the hospital. I immediately rushed to get dresssed, I was pale but I rushed to the hospital anyways. "They need immediate surgery which will amount to a sum of five hundred thousand." The nurse informed me and they were both in the ICU, the accident was fatal and I lost all hope. Five hundred thousand? I didn't even have a cent to my name. Even though they were never good parent, even though my mother ignored what I went through, she was still my mother and he was still my step father who used to be a responsible man. I was weak on the bench, I could barely think straight, I hesitated dialing Alan's number but I couldn't, I held back each time. "Troy Anderson!" My mind agreed at the thought of his name, if I asked him directly for a loan, I was sure he'd be able to help. I immediately rushed home and got dressed for work, i arrived late but just as I hoped, I was expected to deliver files to his office. I planted a gentle knock before entering and he was focused on his screen so i just walked straight to him. "Ahem." I cleared my throat and he slowly looked up. He must've noticed that I didn't try hiding my bruise this time, I couldn't tell what was on his mind but I needed to get his pity as much as possible to get the loan. "You can hand over the files to me now." He said reaching for the file in my hands but I held onto it. "I know this might seem strange and I'm not taking advantage of your kindness but my parents got into an accident and I can't seem to... Uhm..." "It's fine, you can talk slowly." He assured me but the tears had fallen before I could stop them. "I'll help you, just tell me what it is." He said softly and I wiped my face. "I can't afford the bills, I was hoping you'd loan me the..." "I'll give you." He cut me short and brought out dey wipes before handing it to me. "What? No sir, I just need a loan of five hundred thousand, I'll make sure to pay you on time and..." "I'll give you but in return, you also do me a favor." He said and stood up, his eyes peered into mine and my heart raced. Could it be... No it couldn't. My mind flooded with different thoughts, I tried waving it off but the way he stared at me, his eyes told me what it was. "I don't understand what you mean sir, i-" "I think you understand what I mean." I walked out of his seat just to stand next to me and my heart skipped a beat as he pushed my hair behind my ear. "Celeste, I'll give you the money but in return..." I held my breath as he spoke. "I want you to leave your husband." The words came out freely but the weight it held was heavy. It felt like mockery, I couldn't tell what he expected but it wasn't the solution to my problems.
