7The steady sound of his breathing was soothing, a far cry from the chaotic thoughts swirling in my mind. I found myself matching my breath to his, the simple act bringing a measure of calm. Before I knew it, my eyes had grown heavy, the events of the day catching up with me all at once. I drifted off to sleep, lulled by the night sky and Elias's presence, my troubles temporarily forgotten in the face of exhaustion. I awoke to the sensation of being carried, strong arms cradling me against a broad chest. The scent of oranges drifted into my nostrils and I found myself inhaling deeply at the intoxicating presence. The gentle sway of movement and the warmth surrounding me were so comforting that for a moment, I was content to remain in that hazy state between sleep and wakefulness. But
