The next morning, I woke to the sound of birds chirping outside my window. For a moment, I forgot where I was, the unfamiliar surroundings of Oak's bedroom disorienting me. I hated deeply, noticing how easily I could move now. The discomfort from shifting was gone. I tried hard not to dwell on the hollow feeling in my chest and rather filled my thoughts with the trip into town today. There was hot water in the bath when I checked. I had no idea who put it there but sitting in it made my eyes sting. I've spent days on the road, without a proper bath and I spent months without feeling like I was a person.
