“That doesn’t sound ridiculous to me. It sounds absolutely normal. Who is it and what has he done to make you cry?”
Her mother took a moment to compose herself. “It… Well, it is my own fault, actually. I did something…and when I told him, he was naturally very upset. I was hoping he would not be but, well…”
Tina wondered… “You wouldn’t possibly be referring to Lord Ayres, would you?”
Lady Norman dropped her hand from her face and turned toward Tina. “What do you know of Lord Ayres?”
Ah, ha! Her guess was right! She smiled at her mother. “I met him yesterday. He came to see me.”

“Yes, and yes, while he is a bit upset with you for not telling him about me, when he left he was beginning to understand why you kept that information from him.”
