Chapter Thirty-Four
It was an odd invitation Tina had received. She was requested by the Duchess of Kendell to come to the Lady’s Wagering Whist Society meeting. As much as she appreciated the invitation, she didn’t quite understand why, though. And why was the duchess making the invitation and not her mother, at whose home the ladies always met?
Still, for someone who was just beginning to make her way in society, she wasn’t about to dismiss an invitation from a duchess. She showed up on her mother’s doorstep at precisely three.
“Tina, how lovely to see you!” her mother said, amidst the greeting of other members of the Society.
