Kade King
It was supposed to be the busiest day for me, as always, but I couldn’t bring myself to do anything. I knew if I tried to push through, I’d end up losing more than I could afford. Stocks, time, and sanity. All I needed was to go back home. And so I did.
I left The Keeps under the burning afternoon sky, burdened with an emotion I never knew existed in me. Something primal. It wasn’t love. It wasn’t anger. It was darker, deeper. A quiet rage. An overwhelming urge to find the one who had laid hands on her and end him without question. The feeling was so unbearable, yet I forced myself to stay calm. She deserved at least that much from me.
My motorcade eased into the Royal Castle, and I alighted quietly. The guards rushed to offer their greetings, and Leif Uriah appeared at my side, Marce trying to beat him to it as usual.
I ignored them all.
The only person who had my attention was Riven of House Vargas, the one I trusted most.
“Give me an update on where my omega is,” I whispered.
He nodded and walked away as I made my way inside.
As I stepped into the opulent hallway, there was no peace in me. Even as hundreds of domestic staff dropped to their knees in respect, I felt none of the reassurance or calm their gestures were meant to offer. There was only emptiness and the dreadful agony of what I had witnessed, what she had endured. The weight of what it did to her… what it did to me.
I entered the large living room, intending to go straight to my chambers until I was cornered by the sound of her voice.
My mother.
Her soft laughter floated toward me from the balcony, where she sat with an elegant woman. I paused when I saw it was Mrs. Uriah.
“Oh, Your Majesty. You have arrived early,” She greeted with a bow but I said nothing.
“But, Your Grace,” Mrs. Uriah turned to my mother, confused, “you said the King wouldn’t return until late.”
“So I thought,” My mother replied mildly, rising from her seat and gliding toward me. Every step she took was announced by the jingling of her elaborate jewelry.
“Your Majesty… Why are you back so early?” She asked.
Her question only fueled my fury. But I didn’t answer. I already knew how to retaliate. If she thought she could control who I kept by my side, she needed to think again.
I turned away from her without a word and headed toward my quarters.
“You have a guest waiting,” Her voice called out behind me.
I didn’t stop. But I was curious. Who dared step into my chambers without permission?
At the door, a maid opened it for me. I entered the wide living room and crossed the distance into my chamber then froze at the doorway.
There she was. Drizzel Uriah.
Daughter of the High chancellor.
When people speak of beauty, elegance, and spoiled arrogance, they speak of Drizzel. The first time I laid eyes on her, I was five. She was like the Moon Goddess herself, so radiant, so untouchable. I wanted her with a hunger that scared me, and I got her right away.
At twelve, still too young to know what love truly was, I made love to her and I made it count. I gave her promises and, for years, kept them. At eighteen, I was ready to build a future with her.
Until I realized love had more layers. That she… was not it.
Drizzel was the one chosen for me. Handpicked by my father. Groomed by my mother to become my Luna. For years, I believed that was enough. Until I met someone different. Someone who fell in love with me without trying, someone who gave me her heart because it felt right.
“Your Majesty,” Drizzel greeted softly, rising from my bed. That familiar sly smile danced on her lips, her long hair trailing around her waist. She walked toward me and bowed, then chuckled.
“Can I call you that, Kade?”
Her laughter still sounded sweet, but I didn’t respond.
“When did you arrive?” I asked quietly.
“This morning. It was a crazy tour… I heard you’d be working late today.”
I didn’t answer.
She closed the distance between us and placed a delicate palm on my chest, offering a smile that once could move mountains.
“Guess I got lucky you came back early,” She whispered.
She leaned in for a kiss, her lips inches from mine when a knock interrupted the moment.
I turned to the door. Riven stood there.
“I have an update,” He said.
I stepped away from Drizzel without a word and walked into the living room. Riven followed closely.
“Spak." I commanded.
“After she left The Keeps, she went to the public hospital.”
My brows furrowed.
“Public hospital?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“Why? She’s not ill, is she?”
“No. But her father is. He’s been admitted there for the past five years. He’s in a coma.”
A cold chill crawled down my spine.
I stared at Riven, my mind blanking.
“Don’t… tell me…”
“It’s true, Your Majesty. After the incident between you both... your Omega lost her father to coma. She’s been working countless jobs to pay his hospital bills. Right now, she’s at The Landmars Home, working as a housekeeper.”
“What…?” I whispered, staggered by the weight of everything I’d missed.
The harsh reality hit me harder than I ever imagined. I had a woman in my chamber, one the world saw as my match. But my Omega was out there… suffering in silence.
“Get the car ready,” I said, my voice a sharp blade. “Just one. We leave in silence.”
