29 - Abby POV

Time seemed to freeze. I was staring at the sisters. They were staring at me. Shock was written across all of our faces. Mine for the secret that they have hidden from me. Theirs was probably from being exposed. "You... You are... Witches?" I muster out after what felt like an eternity. They both look at each other, and sigh. They slowly raise their hands up to the side. Blue light danced over Maeve's arms whereas Adelaide had purple light crackling up hers. They shut their eyes and slowly opened them - their eyes matched the colours they wielded. I was in awe but also hurt. Why did they keep this from me? For all these years? Did they not trust me? Footsteps pound the corridor - Jason, Nicole and two other warriors come into view. Colt throws up his arms in their directions. "Don't! This is a misunderstanding. Stand down!" He orders. They looked confused at each other. "But sir, they are witches. Their magic is on show and pointed a-" "We were demonstrating that we are witches. Light witches if you must know. Now your Alpha ordered you to leave." Maeve turns to them. She wasn't normally one to lose her cool, minus the last times we have spoke, so this was new for me. Jason and Nicole got the message, walking backwards out of the room. "Gita, Felix. Leave." Austin was now ordering. They just scoffed and look at each other as they slowly turned. "Bet this is all because of the human." Gita snides. "GET OUT!" Adelaide shouts. Her magic flares out and knocks the two of them out of the room. Maeve forces her sister in an embrace to calm her down as she pushes her down the wall. The Betas and Gammas rush out to check on the two and make sure they don't retaliate. "Guys, give us the room, please? Think this needs a few less people." Colt goes to the others before closing the door on them. We stand there in silence as Maeve and Adelaide get to their feet. I take a step slightly closer to them. "Are you born witches or is it given?" They look to each other until Ads steps forward. "Born with it." That had me catch my breathe. "So, all this time and you didn't trust me enough to tell me." I protest at them. "I thought we were friends, sisters from other misters." "No Abby, it's not that! We do see you as our sister and that is why we really couldn't tell you." Maeve comes over and grabs my shoulders. "You saw how this week went for you and Colt. The supernatural world is dangerous." Colt steps in, coming into view. "Witches follow the same rules set for us about exposure - we can only tell our significant other about our true identities. These are the rules set by The Council." "The Council?" "A council made up of leaders of each supernatural beings in the country. For witches and wizards, its their coven leaders. For werewolves, we have people called Elders who are like a werewolf council of their own, making sure our bylaws are followed." Colt explains. "Witches don't face as much conflict as werewolves but we do face them, mainly from human hunters who have discovered our existence; dark witches hardly bother with us." Adelaide adds, coming round to sit on the bed. Maeve joins her and I take the chair opposite them; Colt stands over my shoulder, resting his hand on it and giving me an encouraging squeeze. "That is why we moved away when we were little." Maeve looks at me with sadness in her eyes. They used to live at the bottom of the road that leads to ours. "Your parents said it was because you inherited your grandparents' and were going to move there!?" "That was half true, but it was mainly because the area you live is a hunters hot spot - they frequently comb that area." Adelaide explains, looking at Maeve, who was about to say something, and shaking her head. "That's why you came to us when you needed babysitting." "Our grandparents house is located in the coven we are a part of - The Denast Coven, after our leaders' family. You were always protected when you came." Adelaide said as she reached for my hand. I tentatively take it and reciprocate with Maeve. "Oh! You may want this back." Maeve exclaims and she drapes something over my head. I look down at where it rests. "My pendant?" "It's how we located you. We used a locator spell to find you on a map and then a transportation spell to bring us here." Maeve excitedly tells me. "We can show you one day." But then it dawned on me. "You were at my home?" They were both slightly taken aback before they nodded. "And you saw the damage?" "Ads fixed the front door if that counts towards anything but it would cost too much of our magic to do the rest and we needed it to find you." I sigh. There was a lot of information to process today, and that was if you take away the attack from the afternoon. "Guess.. I guess we all need to learn to communicate with each other better." I get out after a few moments. The look in their eyes said it all: relief, warmth, sisterly love. They pull me towards them and we fall into an embrace. "So, do you need a lift home? We can show you our ways of travel." Maeve quirks as she gives my side a little tickle, making me squirm. "Actually, I was going to stay here for a bit. Figured Colt needs to pay back on his rent for staying at mine." We both giggle at that but Adelaide has a look of concern on hers. "Ads." "It's... I am not a fan of others protecting you." She looks at Colt. "Sorry, I am just-" "Protective of Abby." He finishes her sentence. "I understand, and I will do everything within my power to keep her safe. That goes for my pack too." He looks at me and we share a little moment before he turns back to them. "You are welcome to stay, if that makes you feel better." Maeve nudges Adelaide, giving her a look and directing glances at me and Colt. "Er.. no, its fine. We should be heading home. But..." She takes the pendant and turning it over in her hand - it was a simple silver pendant with Celtic runes inscribed on it. "These runes are a protective ward against magic attacks, but I think we can enhance it a little." Adelaide brings Maeve towards her and they place their hands over the pendant. "When danger looms, we call to home. When foe draw near, the light will come." Purple and blue light swirl around them and filters into their hands. When it dies down, they unclasp their hands - the pendant now had blue and purple detailing across both sides. I smile at it and look back at them. "If you are in danger, just touch the pendant and it will send a signal to the signet rings me and Maeve have." I trial it and watch as the light hums on their rings. "We will come when you do." "Just not when you have any... bedroom problems." Maeve nudges me and raises her eyebrows. I push her back. "Seriously, no shame at all, Maeve." She laughs in response. "But seriously, promise to keep it on you and use it when you need to." I nod and give them both a hug. They may have kept this secret but the thought of them being out of my life was something I could not bear so I would accept their decision to keep it from me. They disappear in a bright light, leaving me and Colt in my hospital room. He turns to me. "Is it weird to be jealous of that?" I chuckle - it was pretty impressive. "Bed?" I question, I could really do with a rest after my brain hurt from the information overload. "Bed."
