24 - Colt POV

1422 Words
Three wolves racing across the field and coming straight towards me. The grey one is howling, beckoning them all the charge forward into the frey. The caramel brown one is huffy, raring to go as it pounds the ground. The dark brown one keeps a stoic look on its face, but its eyes have a look that could kill within seconds. Aloft his back is a woman with long ginger hair that flows in the breeze as they charge down the field, she has one hand on the wolf and the other clutches her swollen pregnant belly; her green eyes focused on the ground where Abby lay. We got incoming. Ash smirked with delight in my head. I smile as well as they charge straight past me. The cavalry has arrived! The woman, Siobhan, comes up next to me, hopping off the wolf, who was Daniel's wolf Fury, before crouching next to Abby and checking her over. I nod at Fury, who bares his neck in response, before shifting into Ash. We charge in to join the other two, who were Austin and Naomi in wolf form as they double teamed Alexis. The grey wolf was Austin; his wolf was called Smoke. He was currently weaving around Alexis' legs trying to take her down. Meanwhile, Tyra, Naomi's wolf, launches herself up onto Alexis and latches onto her shoulders with her claws, trying to get a bite at Alexis' neck. Alexis kicks her feet and and tries to pull at Tyra to get them away from her. The couple made a good tag team with each other. Shall we take down this big ugly? Dan sends me a mindlink; I loved how we could connect again with each other this way. Austin and Naomi have had some fun. Only fair we join in. I respond as we run at a full sprint. You two might want to move out of the way. I send to Austin and Naomi. They both give a subtle nod and pull back slightly but snap their teeth at Alexis to hold her in position. She clocks us approaching too late - the problem when you go feral, you lose all logic and thinking capabilities; you just add on your raw fight instincts. Ash and Fury barrel into her, knocking her far across the ground. The force knocks the wind out of her and drains her enough to make her shift back into her human form. That was so much easier when there is four of us. I think we tired her out though. These guys are just helping us finish this. She stares at us as she pants heavily. We all stalk towards her, keeping low; our bellies brushing close to the ground, ready to launch. Her eyes shift between us and she starts back tracking. "You..! You think you will win! ... Blood Moon will tear you apart! Nothing will be left of you when we are done!" She screams at us. She casts her gaze over us one last time before she shifts into her normal wolf form and scampers off into the distance. Stand down! I order in our mindlink as Naomi looks to go racing off. We all shift back and stare off after her. "Seriously!? We had her!" Naomi protests as she throws her arms up in the air, throwing up some of her ebony hair with it. Austin walks up to her and pulls her into a side hug, whispering sweet nothings in her ear to try and calm her warrior's spirit. "We are just glad to have you back with us." Austin turns to me and comes over for a bro hug before we are joined by Naomi and Dan. "We have been trying to reach you for ages. If it wasn't for that roar we heard earlier we would still be searching." Dan stated as we finished the hug. Sh*t! Hope no one else heard us then. If you lot are done then do you want to head back to us? Siobhan comes over in our mindlink. She didn't have to tell me twice. I rush back over to where I had left them and crouch beside where Abby lies on the ground; I grab one of her hands in mine and hold it to me. "How is she?" I say as well as use sign language at Siobhan - she was deaf in both ears but could speak fine. "She is fine. She has just been knocked out, she will come too if we get her to the hospital. Her cuts and bruises will heal over time but we will have to keep an eye on the one on her head - see if it leads to a concussion or amnesia." She says whilst signing back to me. I sigh in relief. Thank god! "Colt.. Alpha. God its going to be weird saying that. Who is this woman?" Naomi questions as she stares between the two of us. "Just Colt will do, even once I have the ceremony, and she is..." I take a breath and stare down at where she lies on the floor, letting my free hand brush her hair then work down her cheek as delicately as I can. "She saved me. That night - she is my guardian angel. She has given my life a new meaning and... I just brought her pain." I sigh, continuing my strokes along her cheek; she whimpers and leans into the touch briefly. "I want to protect her. I want to save her. Then I want to give her everything she deserves and more." I proclaim as I turn to look at all of them in their eyes, understanding passing through them all as they nod in response. "If that is so then we will protect her with our lives." Austin steps forward. Naomi joins him "Come hell or high water, we will shield her from danger that we face." "We have used one of our large safehouses at Church Warlop to use as our hospital and main base. It's just west from here, we can take her there to be further treated." Dan says whilst signing to Siobhan; she could lipread but we did sign language as it felt respectful to her. Siobhan nods in agreement. "If Colt shifts then we can place her on his back. I will also get on to make sure she does not slide off." I look to the horizon, dusk was setting in. "We stick to the treelines for cover until the dark sets in, then we can roam more freely but still scan the surroundings. If you heard the fight then there is a chance others would have as well." I shift into Ash and lower myself down. Austin picks up Abby and, with Dan's help, they manevoure her onto our back; Naomi was helping Siobhan to stand. "You shouldn't be kneeling so much, you are not getting any smaller." Naomi quips as she manages to get her to her feet. Siobhan swats at her "I maybe deaf but I know you probably made a comment about my size." She retorts, giving her evils as she comes over. "I think you look beautiful, my dear." Dan takes her hand and kisses her cheek. They were such a contrast as she had her fair skin and long ginger hair whereas his short brown hair had the sides shave and nearly the entirety of his body was covered in tattoes, like a good 90%. Dan helps Siobhan hope onto my back, making sure she is comfortable as well before giving her hand a kiss then rubbing her swollen belly. I rise as slowly as possible to make sure they don't fall. Stay close and let me know if one starts slipping or if you need to regain your grip, Siobhan. I mindlink them all. They all follow suit and stay close - Naomi and Dan stay close to my sides whilst Austin roams around us, keeping his eyes trained on anything that moves. We couldn't move fast as then one of the ladies would fall off so we stalked along the fields for the whole route, hugging to the treelines whenever we could. I did allow myself time to reflect on the events of today - Abby would have a lot of questions for me when she was ready. But as I looked around me and saw my old comrades by my side, I allowed an internal smile. The band is back together.
