41 - Colt POV

Abby was squaring me up. You could see the fumes rise out of her head as her chest heaved from heavy breathing; she was trying to compose herself but it did not appear to be working. "Explain. Your. Self!" She enunciated each word with venom. How do I explain this? At the beginning. Ash rolled his eyes at me. Human emotions, so complicated. "Well, uh..." I stutter. I turn to the others in the room. "A hand here?" "With what?" "Babe, Colt didn't tell Abby about the mate bond and that she was his mate." Naomi walks in with Siobhan in tow. "WHAT!" Both men shouted in shock. They all just stared at me in shock. I catch Siobhan signing something to me - you are on your own. I give her a quick smirk then return my intention to Abby. "Well?" She taps her foot, impatiently waiting for me to respond. "Were you going to tell me? Or were you going to wait for me to what, fall at your feet?" I rub my hand across my neck. "Ideally? ... the latter." *SMACK* I did not even register what had happened until I turned my head back to the source. Did our mate just slap us? No one dared lay a finger on the leaders of the pack, particularly the Alpha. And yet, I had a big red hand print on my cheek. "How. DARE YOU?" Abby spits at me. Her hands placed on her hips. "I think we should leave." Dan chimes in the distance and the others rush out of the room, pulling the doors shut behind them. "That's why I have the guards? That's why they follow me like I'm fragile, isn't it? Because you are treating me as if I am your property." She shoves me with every question. I grab her hands. "Abby, stop! I don't see you as my property." She comes closer and I catch a whiff of her scent. What is that smell on her? "You smell different." And I take a big inhale. "Why do you smell like a vampire?" "Excuse me!" She questions me in shock. "You normally smell like strawberries, that's your natural scent. But now I can smell vampire on you?" I turn my gaze to her. "Where were you tonight? What did you do?" Her expression changed, a smirk now plastered on her face. "Well, since I am apparently yours, I guess you should know that I kissed another man." That made my blood boil and I could feel my eyes turn black. She looks me dead in the eye, unphased by my eyes changing to black. "I was in Heavens Above and I met a guy, I guess who was a vamp, and we chatted then danced really close before we made out on the dance floor." "What the hell, Abby! I was worried sick about you. You cannot do that!" I shout back at her. "Actually, I could do that. I still can do that. You want to know why?" And she jabs a finger into my chest. "I am not a werewolf. I do not follow your set of rules! You may be compelled or whatever to claim me but I don't." "Abby, I want to be with you." I try and pull her towards me but she swats me away. "I thought it was just the bond but the more time I spent with you the more I started to fall for you." That made her go wide eyed. "Abby, I can't stop thinking about you. I want you to be with me every minute of every hour of every day. I want to protect and look after you. I-" "Want to take me away from my normal life?" Abby retorts. "Your life will never be normal now that you know about supernaturals, Abby." I fire back. "Not in the way you want it to, but this can be your new normal." "But I have the right to choose whether I want it to or not, don't I?" She pushes me away before starts to pace back and forth. "As far as I was aware, I am in control of my life. Therefore, I can decide what goes on in it." She turns back to me. "Do I get to choose what I do with my life?" I am taken aback at how she was speaking to me. Think we may have pushed her a bit, but I am liking her fiesty side. "Good! I am glad you agree." She responds before I can comment. "Now let's review what has changed in my life and what I am going to do about it, shall we?" And she continues pacing with her hands behind my back. "I agree to the guards until those others are dealt with. But they are to be as far away and out of sight, as I have stated plenty of times, unless I say otherwise." "Then, I am going to where I want and whenever I want - no questions asked to stop me. And finally.." She turns to me. "I am to decide who I date as I see fit." That last one cut my heart into a million pieces; Ash howls in my head. "Abby, I-" I try to reason with her but she holds up hand to shush me. The only lady who could command me besides my mother. "I could date you, I would be a fool to admit if I didn't have some feelings towards you." My heart began to quicken at that. We still had a chance. "But, you need to give me breathing room." She slowly came towards me and gingerly placed a hand on my shoulder. "I am too annoyed at you though so I want have some time for me." I clasp the hand that rests on my shoulder and give it a squeeze. "I am a human, so there are things that need to be done at my speed." I sigh and look at her. "OK, I'm sorry." I move her hand and place my own over my heart. "I promise to try and be more understanding towards you and less... overbearing I guess is the right word." I quirk my eyebrows at her. "Or at least one you would use." Abby chuckled a bit. Finally, a smile from her - felt like we hadn't seen one in years. You are drastically over exaggerating things. Shut up, Ash! "Tell Ash I said hi as I can see you are talking to him." Abby snaps her fingers in front of me to regain my attention. Tell her I said hello. "He says hello." "I am going to go back to my place and get some sleep; kind of had a few drinks so I need to recover." Abby patted me and went to leave. "Would you like a lift? I can take you back if you want." I offered. "It's ok, I have one sorted." She turns to me, holding onto her pendant. Within a few seconds, Maeve poofs into the room with a bright light. "It's ok, I have told Adelaide to stand down as its not a real danger - she is a bit annoyed that we used the pendant like this." I just smile and turn towards Abby. "Could I at least get a hug before you leave? I don't want to leave on a sour note." I hold out my hands towards her, hoping she would return. Her and Maeve share a look before Abby smiles. "I think that is a great idea." And she falls into my embrace. I make sure to tuck her into the crook of my neck as I rest my head on top of hers. "Wait! I am feeling left out!" Before we could respond, Maeve jumps into us to join the embrace, causing myself and Abby to laugh at her antics. We eventually pulled apart and Abby moves to a clearer part of the room with Maeve. She looks at me and gives me a smile as they disappear in a bright ball of light. We were on thin ice but there was still a chance.
