“Okay guys, listen up. It's been a couple of hours now, so I think it’s time our guests started making their way home. Can we start clearing the food please, and if you could reduce the number of drinks you’re carrying and refilling, that would be great. Thank you.” Sophie squeezed her temples with a thumb and forefinger as the last of the waiting staff trailed out of the kitchen, loaded with trays. It had been a long day and the lack of sleep was beginning to kick in. Pouring herself a glass of wine, she sat on a barstool and slipped her heels off. The instant relief in her feet spread through her body like a wave. Keeping an eye on Ava had taken more out of her than she had anticipated but preventing her from wallowing in the pit of despair that Sophie had found her in, was worth it.
