“I'm taking my break,” Ava said to Lacey. “Can you cover my section, please?” Her first shift back at The Bike Shed was taking its toll. Her feet were sore, her head was pounding like a bass drum and she was drained. She hadn't had a decent nights sleep in weeks and was still being played by nightmares that often left her crying into her pillow. Sliding into an empty booth, Ava stretched her aching legs onto the bench and leaned against the cushioned back. The intent relief washed through her like warm sunshine on a crisp winter day. “Mind if I join you?” Ava visibly stiffened at the sound of his voice.
