It wouldn’t stop. I leaned over and patted the night table. “Tom, you’re up, can you get the phone, honey?” I rolled over so he wouldn’t disturb me and started to doze off again. But the phone kept ringing. “Tom,” I said, forcing my eyes open, and realized where I was. I guess there was no reason to ask Tom to answer the phone since he was far, far away. “Hello,” I said, clearing my throat of the frog that was lodged in it. “Hey, sweetie,” said an awfully chipper voice that sounded like Tom. “Hi.
